  • v6 second battery tray

i am after some info about battery trays - other than the TJM tray to suit a V6 - as i have read HAZZA thread and like the tray - however TJM are out of stock until end march early april( unless i can track one down in a store somewhere - but newcastle way is out os stock)
i have seen the offroad downunder trays but they are a bit more pricey ( is it worth the extra money)
does anyone know what the ARB tray is like - apparently they have one available but i am unable to visit then to view it for the short term due to work
any other suggestions on a tray to use
i will be fitting a AGM battery

I've got an outback accessories one in mine, it's a bit small though.
I had heard the ARB one sits on a different location- behind the original battery, so maybe think about were you want it located.
I think piranha is another brand to look at, or ABR sidewinder.

I just got a TJM tray for the V6.
Ordered it about a week ago from the Darwin store. Arrived yesterday from the warehouse down south.

Unless you do some modifications the ARB one won't fit as it's for the Diesel not the V6 plus it does fit a smaller battery. I have the Offroad Downunder tray and I'm very happy with it. I would say they are definitely worth the money - you do get a discount for mentioning Pradopoint if you buy direct rather than through ebay.

sorry been busy with work then done my back in so slack on the pc front. yep have finally got it fitted. not without some fine tuning though - mainly due to lack of detail in the instructions. trying to work out which bolts are what and go where i mixed a couple up but all works in the end. definitely a tight fit and a bit of playing around with the original wiring harness to get it to run where it should. i drilled the hole for the required mount and after 2 coats of automotive paint, some lanolin spray and a generous blob of gasket maker both sides i dont think its going to give me any grief.
only major issue i had was with the power steering bracket - i had to bend it to suit where the unit would sit without fouling the hoses on anything.
havent fit the battery or electronics yet though as have to get some thin rubber to sit on the base just for a bit extra protection and then make up a heat sheild for the battery as i am fitting an AGM. ( to all the nay sayers please dont haze me because i have done this before and i know the pros and cons and it works for me - i am an auto elec by trade.)

                barcode,

Sorry to about the back it's a real bugger when that happens.

Great to hear you have the TJM battery tray in. As for the rubber I purchased from Martins Rubber in Brisbane. I guess you would have another supplier there.

I'm not an Auto Sparky but spent 16 years in the auto trade mainly on new vehicles. Over the years I managed to keep a couple of battery heat shields off the 75 series. I totally agree with placing a heat shield over the battery. I used one of these on my setup.

If you feel the need post us some progressive photos.

I found the easiest way is to make your own battery tray..The only difference is the power steering reservoir which has to be re positioned on the oe base bracket (drill out the spotwelds ) mounted to the far inside corner of the tray and a slight mod to the air cleaner tube bracket.the advantage is that you can make many mounting points off of oe captive nuts in the body ..Even the piranha batt tray suffers from body cracking on vehicles used on corrugations...And another point there is no need for a heat shield as the battery is in the front of the engine bay not the back corner as the 75 series.
Regards Rob (spent many years working at ARB and have seen loads of poor quality trays from other manufacturers)
