  • OBD2 or M-OBD in 2004 GXL Prado?

    gday,

My father in law recently bought himself an Android tablet, and is having problems with a Bluetooth OBD adapter in his 2004 GXL Prado. I've read here and elsewhere that Toyota were using M-OBD instead of ODB2.. can anyone confirm this? His local repair agents didn't seem to know, they must have a setup which works with either.

    Cheers
    Brett

I tried an OBD2 device on my 06 diesel manual and it worked fine. I read somewhere that in oz all cars are this protocol past 02 models

OBD2 scanners work for some minor things in post 2002 prados, but fail to read most critical dioagnostics which are all written in M-OBD. From memory, You cant read injector firing or timing, cant turn same on and off, can't read ABS info, fuel pump info, reset airbag etc etc.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

              Hi davros,
Yeah it was a fleabay bluetooth unit that i tried. My mate bought it for his commodore and we thought we'd try it on the prado. I only used it to check voltage. None of the parameters you mentioned .The unit's instructions said it was compatible with all post 02 model cars in oz. It was written in badly translated English though. Thanks for the correct info.

Have you looked at this thread. My ebay scanner works well with torque pro and adding the script.

If the oneandonlyshitkicker wants to read the ABS module the only one that will work besides possibly Autel/Snap-on/Gscan/Launch will be Techstream on a laptop.
