  • False Fuel Gauge readings

Does anyone else have a lying fuel gauge,
the one in my prado can read quarter of tank then once you hit the highway it will disappear real quick, fuel light will come on, but once you slow down in and around town it will go back up to nearly quarter tank again..... bit scary driving 100 ks thinking you will make it then the fuel light comes on, then when you get home its comes up.... starting to tick me the wrong way..

    any help would be appreciated

Hi Boss. Fit a temporary voltmeter to cigarette lighter socket and watch for corrolation between voltage reading and fuel guage performance. I would suspect that you may have a dozey regulator on your alternator or something amiss with charging system. Cheers, Derb.

Have a look at this thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l-gauge-issues

I had a car do this, might be the sender unit in the tank. Diesel or Petrol?

My gauge doesn't go to empty like that thread. It just goes down really fast and shows much lower than there is. It then moves up when I start the car again and starts going down again. Really annoying. I filled up 30 litres to full yesterday and the gauge was showing only a quarter full before I filled up. The main 90ltr tank.

Just this morning I started the car (on petrol) and watched the gauge go up past half then drop below half then go back up past half and drop again. I gave up looking at it. There must be something that controls this???
