  • Traction control lights & engine warning light

    Hi,

I have a 2005 VX and a week ago I started it up (after driving in the morning) and the engine light came on, then the vsc lights. I luckily got to test the abs was disabled when a guy pulled out in front of me at a t-intersection shortly after!

I have taken it to my mechanic and he has had it since Wednesday last week (now Monday). Reading the posts here I thought it might be the ABS sensor. So when I took it to him I mentioned that. He's ignored me and after a couple of days suggested the crank sensor. Spoke to him this afternoon he has now suggested the computer?

Can anybody please give a suggestion as to what it might be (including if you believe it's the abs sensor) and how I can get him to look at it?

    Thanks.

    Ben

    Ben,

See my thread in the Brakes section - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...412#post329412

Problem was the ABS sensor wire - easily fixed.

Just need to get the vehicle hooked up to a diagnostics unit to determine which corner is causing the problem, and then a matter of confirming whether it is the cable or the sensor.

      Thanks for helping.

I had read your post previously which is why I thought it might be the ABS sensor.

The mechanic reckons he's already put it on the diagnostics and it didn't come back with a reading for an ABS problem. He keeps telling me that another light should be flashing on the dash if it's an ABS Sensor (dashboard's already lit up with ABS, VSC TRC, VSC OFF and engine - I don't have many more!)

The worst thing is these guys are normally pretty good (at least I've never had problems anyway). So I don't know what else to do other than bend over a barrel and wait for the inevitable action.

I hate to say it but maybe its time it went to toyota ?? They have possibly seen it before and will know straight away and also have a different diagnostics machine (there not all the same) ?? Your mechanic might be good at servicing but not at fault finding.. I will ring my mate today (mechanic at toyota) and see if he can shed any light for you. Where are you located ?? Cheers Steve

You've got an extra light I didn't notice before - my problem didn't result in the engine light being lit up........

Thanks Steve, you raise a good point about the fault finding.

For all my sins I'm located in Canberra.

The original reason I didn't take it to Toyota was because the wait to get in was almost 2 weeks and I didn't want to risk having my wife and kids in it without ABS / Traction control.

Interesting that your engine light didn't come on, could be the difference for all my problems.

If I ever get the car back I'll be able to let you guys what the outcome is.

I finally have it back. My mechanic took it to Toyota who also couldn't work it out so they "fiddled with some wires which seems to have fixed it" (Toyota's words).

I have to take it back though as they've stuffed the power windows now.

The windows are easy to resolve.

Just got to each individual window switch on each door, lower the window a bit, then raise the window and keep the switch pulled up for a few seconds once the window is closed.

Once you've done that with all of them, the auto-up/auto-down will work again.

Way2go, can this be done from the controller on the drivers door or do you actually need to do it via each individual controller on each door as you have said ??? I thought there was some thing about having to turn thr ignition on and off for each one or some thing ?? Cheers Steve

You have to follow the blinking lights on the window up/down switch around the car. The blinking tells you which one to do.

You rock! That has saved me a trip.

Engine work, suspension work, etc I'm fine with. You want to see me glaze over, give me an electrical problem.
