  • Reversing Camera Mounting Locations

    Hi All,
I am installing a reversing camera on the Prado and was looking for advice from others as to the best location for the camera. At this stage I dont have a hard spare wheel cover so was thinking of mounting it just above the number plate. Looking at it last night I was worried about the blindspot created by the spare wheel. Anyone else come across this problem? Has anyone mounted a camera elsewhere with good results?

The unit is being installed on Saturday morning. The head unit replaces the existing rear veiw mirror providing a 4.2' LCD viewing screen when the car is put in reverse. I will check back and post my thoughts after it has been installed.
Avoiding all eye contact I shamefully stare down at my muddy feet and softly announce... "My name is Dale and I am a 4WD accessories addict".

I put mine just below the number plate. No problem with blind spots.

One of the neater installationgs is to get a number plate light reversing camera which is available from ebay.
But on mine, it is screwed in between the 2 number plate lights. The field of view does not get to the spare tyre. But you get an offset view of the towbar (just) which makes it interesting reversing up to a trailer.

I found that the screen which attaches to the rear view mirror is too heavy and makes the mirror wobble (this is on our Tarago). The rear view mirror on the Prado might be stiffer.

I put mine above the # plate next to the # plate light. I adjusted it so I can just see the tow bar to make hitching up the camper easy. No blind spots

Mine is currently replacing one of the lights for the license plate. I'm going to change it though and fit one in the hole in the middle of the spare tyre for a more central location with less blind spots.
