  • Diesel wouldn't start???

    Hi Evereone,

I was wanted to know if anyone has had the same problem and how it was rectified?

On 2 occasions my '09 120 series diesel wouldn't start after the glow light went out, I thought that having the air cond turned on might of affected it so i turned it off and cranked and cranked the motor until finally it started, it happened after doing a lot of highway driving. The next time was in the morning after sitting all night crank crank crank and finally started, I was thinking it could be a dose of bad fuel, any advice would be good before I take it back to Toyota and try an explain it to the apprentice!!!:-?:-?

Have you drained the fuel pump and checked what is coming out of the tap? I would assume that if water is present you wouldn't be able to start, sounds more like fuel starvation.

I had a 308 V8 falcon many years ago that would run fine, then if you went to overtake, the motor would cut out and you would crank, crank crank until finally the engine would catch. Turns out there was a tiny sintered brass filter in the fuel line right on the carby that was only letting minimal fuel through 'cause it was full of rubbish.

Might be worth looking at the fuel filter underneath between tanks?

    Cheers,

    Dave

How long after coming off the highway did you switch off the ignition?
Could be the turbo was too hot, and not enough time to cool down....

Just a note of caution. The diesel pressures in these modern engines are thus high that they are potentially lethal. I wouldnt experiment with anything beyond whats written in the instruction manual.
