  • What grade engine oil to use?

What specific oil does toyota suggest for a 2004-5 V6 as I seem to have lost my owners manual.

I have be using Penrite Everyday Full Synthetic 5W-50 but it is no longer available and a new range has been released but none of the new oils have the exact same viscosity as my old choice.

What exactly does Toyota say in the owners manual as this is what I would have used orginally to make my decision.

      20W-50 and 15W-40
API grade SJ or SL multigrade engine oil

      10W-30 and 5W-30
API grade SJ "Energy Conserving", SL "Energy Conserving" or ILSAC multigrade engine oil

The latter is recommended for cooler weather.

Im suprised you would be using a 5w50, would have thought 50 to be to thick for a VVT engine ?? More like 30 to 40 I would have thought. I use either 10w30 which I get from toyota and use in the wifes yaris as well, or I use magnatec which I have used in alot of my previous vehicles with out issues. Currently using magnatec in the 120 Cheers Steve
