  • Sony Harness to Toyota 120 Factory Wiring

    Howdy Guys.

Been lurking here a while, but now starting to do something. hehe.

ANyway, just bit the bullet and bought a new Sony XAV-72BT 7" Double din DVD player tonight.

I've been getting a heap of info from this place, as well as this place: http://dixonarchive.com/prado/stereoupgrade2.htm

Now, luckily this place has part numbers even, for a sony funnily enough, but my question to anyone here is - the two part numbers he's listed, APP0141/APP8SP - does anyone know anything about them? Do I need both?

Im also planning to do a reverse camera install too, using the G32VSN Prado Reverse camera kit.

Now, I'm no electrical engineer, but can anyone tell me if this will work with that head unit? The unit is reverse camera friendly, so presume that all things connected in the right place should have no problems.

also IS it really plug and play? or is there any cutting/splicing required?

I'm a bit nervous pulling my dash apart, but I'm pretty confident I can do it, just want to make sure i've got all the bits before I start.

    Thanks in advance

OH - going into a 2007 VX Auto, with factory audio BT head unit.

I guess that you are in the states??

    (1) According to an eBay Australia listing for the Sony head unit, it recommends a specific Sony camera [XA-R800C] in the specifications, and a Google check of this item suggests that it is an NTSC camera. (2) Looking at the Toyota spec for the G32VSN Prado Reverse camera kit, suggest that it is ALSO an NTSC device - so Good News!

    (2) You may need some kind of "Dash Kit" to fill in the gaps around the new unit.

    (3) Looking at the two wiring Harnesses that you nominate, [Google Search] (only one required) the first appears to be the most likely, as the eBay photo of the back of the unit has 16 connections [black], the white connector is for multiple A/V Inputs/Outputs. The second harness has 12 connections, and I would expect it to be excluded. Cannot count connections on the photo for harness #1.

    (4) Plug n play? - almost! - when I installed a Chinese TG695gd 6 months ago, the "ISO<>Toyota" Plug I used had 98% of the wiring nailed!! I just had to swap over the "+12v Battery", and the "IgnitionON" cables, and had to solder on an RCA Plug/Socket to the reversing camera, and find the reversing light wire which is used to activate the camera, and switch the display.

    (5) Yes you will have to pretty much pull the centre dash to pieces, lots of help on the Internet, and this site. Not "difficult" as such, yet "psychologically testing" the first time.

    Hope that is helpful,

One more thing, if your old head unit has a security code "SET", then "UN-SET" it before you remove it, just in case you need to use it later. Once you take it out, it will be inconvenient to power it up just to enter the security code..

Hi mate!! Actually I'm in Darwin, NT haha

1 and 1.2 - Thanks for that! thats what I thought, just a bit nervous with this 'investment' lol

2- Ah yes, I've seen them floating around somewhere, I'll get onto that too!

3- Thanks again! I might get that one then, and see where that leads to.

4- How did you know that the power and IGN were wrong, and needed to be swapped? was it a matter of looking at the harness and the toyota ISO and seeing that the coloured wires didn't match the plug they were going into?

Yeah, expected a bit more fiddling around with the wiring for the Reversing camera.

5- Looks to be a job with a mate and a few cold ones... maybe start with one cold one and as things fall into place add additional coldies haha

Thank you so much again, I'm feeling a bit more confident already

            Hi Booya,

Ok! Sorry.... Darwin! Just assumed that because by eBay search for the Sony Unit gave USA sellers, and the site you referenced was also USA!

The partial story of my installing a 2xDin unit is to be found at UHF-radio-choices-pluses-and-minuses-of-remote-mike-models

I used the 'Aerpro APP0141 ISI Interconnect Wiring Harness' purchased from SuperCheap I think. I realised that I needed to swap the 12v Battery, and the 12v Ignitioin (switched), because the radio lost all memory when the ignition was switched off (Radio Station Programming etc). The above harness had an inline connector on both these cables [inputs], so it was easy to switch them over, no soldering.

I still have my old 'locked' security 2006 'Fujitsu Ten' radio in the garage in a box somewhere, with the instruction manual, but as I remember it, if the security code has been enabled, a red led? flashes to say so??. Read the radio manual, if you don't have one I will search for mine. Some dealers set the Security code on pre-delivery, but can be set by owner also. If you have no knowledge of it, and you bought the Prado new, then it is probably not enabled.

On the subject of Reversing cameras, I added the eBay $60 'Chinese special' rev. camera, and it was absolute crap. The inside of the lense was dirty, and the plastic housing was causing distortion. The whole image looked "smoky". I even took it to pieces to clean the lense and ended drilling out a hole for the vision, and then covering the hole with the flat glass face of a $12 girls wrist-watch purchased from Target.

Partial solution, but when I saw some $20 (+15freight) superseded units on the Waeco website, I bought it, and it is sooo much better, and easily adjustable which might be very useful if ever we need to tow a trailer.

            Reversing-Camera-Waeco-Superseded-Stocks.

This was found via google, and has the wiring layout of the unit which was is our 2006 Prado, and MAY be of more than general interest if yours is the same... http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2160/...d149a68255.jpg

Happy to help further if I can.
