  • Bleeding air from cooling system on 1kz

    Gidday
Waiting on a new radiator from Toyota and it may not arrive in time for me to get it fitted by my mechanic before he closes for Christmas. If I have to fit it myself, can anyone tell me how to bleed the air out of the system when I refill with coolant. On the overflow tank there is a black plastic cap with a square indent in it (looks like a 3/8 drive will fit it). Is this the bleed screw by any chance and if so what is the correct procedure?
    Cheers......Wayne

I didn't think there was a procedure for bleeding the air out the cooling system? I thought you just filled, ran for a while, then top up as necessary? Could be wrong though.

Thanks guys. Have to admit I am now redfaced. Opened the bonnet to measure the new radiator against the old and what did I see? That's right, a sticker on the fan shroud telling me how to refill the cooling system! Doesn't mention the heater but that sounds good sense to turn it on although I doubt it has a valve anymore as most manufacturers nowadays let water through the heater core all the time.
I will fit the low coolant alarm at the same time as the new radiator, hoses and clamps
          Cheers......Wayne

On my 2004, the sticker says to remove the bleed valve whilst you are filling, then replace the valve and the cap before warming up the engine and doing a final top up.
