  • Did oil change now car wont start.......

Hi, I have the 08 prado d4d. Yesterday i did a oil change just filter and oil, the filter was really hard to remove so my friend undid the solenoids and the top plug for the injector controller. We let the oil drain and then turned the motor over for half a sec to get all the oil out.
Then put everything back together tried to start it but wont start..
If you prime the car manually it tries to turn over then dies.. Everything was put back the same way

Can anyone help i'm at a loss..

Maybe an oil wrench next time would save you some trouble...

Yeah, as iantz said, use an oil filter wrench next time to make it easy if it's too tight. I've got an oil filter plier wrench with hard rubber clamps on it that makes light work of stubborn oil filter removals. $12 approx from Supercheap Auto.

Unplugging the injector controller to dump the oil would have sent the engine ECM haywire I think...

Not a good move and all, don't copy this to empty oil out of the engine... At work last week I sent a V8 cruiser away for a service, one of the lads at the other shop forgot the engine oil.. it ran for a whole minute before it died and seized the big V8. Cost, around $31g.

A mate of mine accidentally did an oil change using hydraulic oil, don't know how given the smell. Lots of white smoke!

Please don't ever ever do this again. If you want to get rid of as much old oil as possible flush some new through but this is unnecessary and could damage your engine.

Much the same as Matt I have seen a large diesel engine in a dozer killed by 10 seconds of oops. Oil change on a mid sized dozer (D8 ish) and the drain cock was left open. Filled with nice clean oil (onto the ground). Fired up and oh oh that doesn't sound good. Very very expensive.

I don't know if they are available for the D4D motor but for the 1kz motor i use a filter socket which is available as a spare part from toyota ,cost about $35.Fits over top of filter and into a 14mm socket ,works a treat

I've actually never used any sort of tool, ever. When its been a bit stiff, I've grabbed the missus' rubber pad for opening jars, for extra grip on the filter. Works a charm. I only ever tighten the filter by hand too....

                      Gday All

I find these type of clamps to be the best for most filter removal! ..The tighter you twist the tighter it grabs and adjusts to most filters

Sorry for the late reply.. So the problem was the temp sensor for the high pressure fuel pump one of the wires came loose when trying to undo the oil fiter, also i have the piler/ wrench for undoing the filter but it was on sooo tight it was crushing the filter while we trying to turn it. In the end i had to put a screw driver through it to take it off..

                        Thanks for all your replies

My Grande keeps the starter engaged until the engine fires, even if you hit it for half a sec. Doing that could be a disaster!
