  • Pimp my.... ...Frig?

Ok, I confess to 'pimping' our Waeco 60 litre frig! - So Shoot me!

Beer or Soft-Drink?? How can you decide if you can't see it!

The miserable weak led light at one lonely end of the frig could only be described as inadequate.

So I added a circumference of 'sticky' LED strip lighting from Oatley Electronics ($7 / 0.5m)to give an adequate chance of correctly choosing between a beer and a sarsaparilla!

I used the sold core Telephone wire about 5-6 inches link and soldered it directly to the end contacts of the 12v led globe, so it could be removed (with the globe) as desired. The Telephone wire easily jams into the small space around the light, and 'solid core' wire stays just where you place it.

In the second image you can just make out the red/black wires at the end of the LED strip (about 6 watts per meter - used about 1.4m??, but 0.5m would be fine to run down just one side.

I feel such a tart; but there you go!

That's gold bworth. Tell me, can you hook it up to the stereo so it blinks in time with the bass or changes colour...

            Disco baby!
            Cheers

              Hi Bworth

Now all you need to do to the fridge is a custom mural on the outside, a vehicle it sits in for transport around the campsite which has 20" chromes and 350 Chevy

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Hey Richo, I keep looking on the site for a thread on how to lower the Prado, and all I can ever find in posts is guys talking about 'lifting their rigs' - I just don't understand!

Now Michael's (120D4D) idea of linking it to the stereo is also right up my alley! Now I just have to get back under the car with a toothbrush and clean all the mud from around the blue LEDs under the running boards and I will see what I can do...

                Thanks,

Nice work on the lights, never can have too many lights when camping and those LED strips are brilliant.

                  Cheers Andrew

                            Update....

The back of the light strip has a self adhesive strip, which goes a bit bubbly in the form that it is distributed. The paper backing (which you 'remove to apply') comes adrift from the plastic strip in patches, and the glue looses its 'stick' a bit.

This weekend I re-glued the light strip using Quick Grip, and all is well, I also had to repair a break where a bottle top, carelessly placed) cut/damaged the stripping. As a result, I cut the strip in half and rewired it so that there were two 'half strips' covering the circumference, rather than just one. That way if one strip fails, the other will provide backup.

The glue problem has proved minor, and the condensation & moisture is not a problem, as it is IP67 water rated.
