  • Piranha Battery Tray Install

Just thought I'd put in my first install guide.

    Step 1:
But the Piranha battery tray - I bought mine on eBay for $169 delivered - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=110773971746
    Step 2:
When I received the tray, I noticed that there was no hole in the tray. This is needed in order to hold the nuts on the other side of the tray when putting your bolts through:

So off to my mates workshop to get the hole put in:

    Result:

    Step 3:
I followed the instructions supplied to the letter, the only difficult bit was tightening the nuts through the battery tray under side. It's a small spot and hard to get to with your fingers. I used an offset spanner, but even then it was hard work!

    Step 4:
Drill the holes through the tyre guard and get your bolts through and tightened up on the other side. I put the nuts on directly to the wheel arch and by passed the mud guard. This ensured a tighter fit. The mud guard just goes over the top to cover the bolts anyway.

    Step 5:
Very straight forward, follow the instructions and just do all your bolts up tightly. The instructions are pretty good, but there was a bit of head scratching involved until I worked out they forgot to cut the hole in my tray.

    Finished product:

Now all that is needed is the actual battery and the running of all my cables. I'll put that on a separate thread.

Hope this helped! Any questions let me know and I'll expand on it here.

    Cheers,
    Loz

Yup. All the images and instructions showed the hole but mine didn't have it. It's vital to get to the opposite side to put the nut in

It's impossible to get the nuts in there without having the hole to get to the underside of the tray. Unless you've simply screwed the nuts into the metal of the car without using a nut. That would be the only way of installing the tray without the hole in it.

This is the link to the tray I bought. As you can see it has a hole in their website picture, but the one I got didn't have it!

Had a look at mine today and can now see what Lorenzo is on about. To bolt the small "L" shape bracket into place yes you do need to hold the nut in place. I did the bracket up before installing the actual tray so didn't have to worry about the "hole".
Yes the instructions show the "hole" but it can be done without it also which is how I and others have done it.

No, I didn't need the hole for the L bracket. I needed the hole to hold the nuts in place for the bolts which are on either side of the hole.

Mine are also threaded in my 2006 model so unsure as to why yours Lorenzo would have been any different.

Hmmm... I can't remember now, I'll have to have a look. They may have been threaded but I had nuts supplied and probably wanted to give it that extra reinforcement... Anyway doesn't matter, its in and working beautifully. Rigged up my dual battery last friday too with the redarc and an exide ed5... Turned the fridge on at 0 degrees (arb fridge) and it ran for 4 days straight!!!

                        Love it!

                            Lorenzo,

Not a good idea to drain your battery lower than about 60% discharge
on a regular basis as it will greatly reduce the life of the battery.

                            Cheers

Yes I know. It was a one off to see how long it could actually last for. I've now set the arb fridge to medium cut off.. from memory it cuts the fridge out when it reaches about 50% charge and starts up again when you turn the vehicle back on.

I'm going on a trip to the limestone coast over new years and I'll give it a good run then..
