  • Lightforce 240 XGT

I have a 120 Series Grande with Factory Alloy Bull Bar but with a 65mm lift, soon to be 82mm with new tyres.

Does anyone know if these lights will fit on the bar and not "clash" with the bonnet opening around them?

My measurements look like the bonnet will catch on them on opening.

Not going HID as I don't want the differential between Halogen and HID, sticking to Halogen lights.

    Thanks for any assistance.

    Cheers,
    Millsy

Hi mate, they sure do. I have them on my rig and a few people have them on here.

You have do do something to the mounting, i think turn the mount around or something to make them fit with the bar. I'm not sure, I bought my car with them on.

They dont clash with the bonnet opening.
    Cheers, Damo

I like the XGT's better as the mounting system is much more robust.
I found with the Blitz 240s that the mounts would sometimes vibrate a bit on rough roads at speed. Don't have this problem so much with the XGT's.

          Hi Millsy,

Over the weekend I put H1 HID globes/kit in our driving lights, and so I have been reviewing the HID upgrade path viewing the options and examining the cost and perceived benefits etc. There was a Driving light Review and Test published in 4WD Action Issue #161, dated sometime in March 2011. They gave review comparisons of lux measured at 100m of the Lightforce 240 XGT 100w Halogen as 40 lux, compared with 193 lux for the 50w HID units, which they gave as their 'Best Spot', 'Best Overall', and 'Best HID' awards, The Halogen got the 'Best Halogen' award.

I have just paid $165 inc post for a 100watt kit, which I mounted in the bumper bar, attached to behind where the winch might otherwise go. I am going out to take a look at the improvement as soon as I send this message. (Now dark in Sydney). The 100watt controller/ballasts are absolute monsters, so it seemed like a reasonable idea to go for the bumper mount???

Happy to send more details on the review if you PM me with an email address.

If you need to review the write-ups, many public libraries have back issues.

I think either way you have a splendid set of spots, and I am sure you will ultimately have an HID upgrade path if desired, either via the Lightforce or generic Chinese options.

Lightforce paid for that result, there are many other brands out there, that are much better. And for that price, the wiring loom should be supplied free of charge, not extra.

              Hi Croozza,

I don't have any allegiance to any globe or lighting source, however my immediate thought in truth of advertising of lights, and the comparison of the effective light output of each (Lightforce 240) unit was simple enough, and really only likely to be in serious error if there was a large part of the spectra of HID lamps that lies outside the human visual range, because that would give a numerical bias which the eye would not receive.

It is a shame that FYRLYT was not part of ther review of lights earlier this year, and that may be rectified later, but my information on HID v Halogen is backed up only by my own comparison of the two sources, and I would say that in my immediate comparison of the two is that the 100w HID absolutely creams the 100w Halogen, in terms of the sheer volume of light output down the highway. Remember I have just swapped halogen <> HID, on the same reflectors. If the XENOPHOT globes that FYRLYT use go one step further then I can't wait to see it.

The set of spotlights that I now have on our Prado are old! They were purchased in early 1975, about a month after cyclone Tracy ripped through Darwin. I have had them in 'mothballs' because most of my vehicles since then haven't been able to cope with the overall dimensions to allow me to mount them (Cibie Super Oscars) on something. When we bought the Prado earlier in the year, they were wired up the next day.

As mentioned, I have now put the HID globes in the old Super Oscars, and at this stage I can say that they look great. Adjustments required? Yes, but a cheap upgrade at about $165. Worth the money? Absolutely. Would I pay what the major companies are charging for an HID light when the Chinese version is so much cheaper, and getting cheaper? No, is the answer.

I honestly I am confused by the FYRLYT documentation that gives the lumen/watt of their 'top-dog' (5000lumens/150watts=33 l/watt) as about half the output of the 70w (4750lumens/70w=67 l/watt) Chinese units they choose to denigrate??

Just checked a US distributor - cost us US$710 per pair with 12-24v inverter.

Not my problem at the moment

              Best Wishes,

              bworth

p.s. I will be removing the review pages [i.e. Links] from my online storage, so probably best to also remove them from your above quote??

Hey fellow Prado owners, I certianly started something here...

I ended up with Lightforce 50W HID Genesis as I think they fir the factory BB better and I'm really happy with them.

Went 2 spots with a cover that is versatile but can order the driving insert if I want it for free.

Heres to happy driving in your Prado.
