  • SurePower Battery Isolator- is it charging fully?

    Hi
I have a Surepower battery isolater ( not one of the recalled serial numbers) with a ARB dual battery setup.
It seems to be working ok, but I notice both my batterys are sitting at 12.49 volts after a trip. I seem to recall a 100% charged battery should be close to 12.70 volts, so that sort of implies I am at about 85% charge.
is there an issue with this isloater when they get to a certian voltage point (like 12.49 volts) they dont charge anymore?

    Cheers
    [B]Robert

You need to check the voltages with the engine running first to get an idea of whats going on.

Monitor the charge voltages the batteries are getting, does the charge voltage drop off at some point?

            Howdy Gumboot,
I have an 07 D4D with a Surepower battery isolater as well. I also have a Ctek Multi XS 15000 installed in the back to keep it all charged as car sits in the shed 5 weeks at a time. What i had found was that even after a long drive the Ctek took a while to get to full charge. I have now installed a LeighW voltage booster and have found that not only does the Surepower connect in sooner but it charges longer. Just drove back to Adelaide this morning and was monitoring voltage with my new scanguage 2 and voltage was between 13.9-14.2V for the whole trip. Got in 4 hrs ago just checked voltage as fridge is running in the back in 30 deg heat and voltage is still @ 12.6 and beer @ 1.5 deg . There is threads regarding the lack of charge in the D4D for aux battery. When the Surepower dies will look at a redarc dcdc but at the moment for me the voltage boost thingmygig seems to be working well. PS i'm no sparky but I do know cold beer n thats all that matters to me in my 5 weeks off.
            Regards Adam
Yep.....I have a Prado just like you

Well I put a multimeter on the prado.
At Idle with the multimeter on the main battery it was reading 13.66V, Aux battery was reading 13.64V. ScanGuage was reading around 13.5 volts, moves up and down a little.
When the engine is off, the battery is around 12.49 Volts.
After extensive reading it does look like the D4D have a reduced charge from the alternator. Shame on you Mr Toyota., This is probably why also the lights are not as bright as man yother vehicles as they as that decrease in voltage generally means the headlights get less voltage. I will check out the LeighW voltage boosters.

                    Thanks Adam,
I am in the same boat as you. I knew something was wrong up front when looking at the battery holding voltages. Once I got the Fluke on it, it just confirmed it. I'll report back on the leighW

                    Cheers

                      Ok results are in.
Standard - Prado reading ~13.7 Volts at the battery when prado is running at 1500rpm.
Installed Leighw's voltage booster, now reading ~14.3 volts @ 1500 rpm.
