    Hi All, my 2008 diesel auto has just had 2 new engine mounts fitted under warranty at 50000 km.I now have what i consider a bad vibration through the steering and pedals from about 1200 rpm to 2100 rpm.Toyota tell me that the new series 3 engine mounts are stiffer and will transfer vibration, and i should be gratefull it is not worse.(If it was like this new it would still be in the dealers) so do I sell the problem on or has anybody else had the problem and come up with a fix.No way would i look at a new Toyota at this stage the " Oh what a feeling is not a nice one " any help appreciated

    that sound like one big BS to me, i'd be taking it back and saying exactly that. You did not purchase the vehicle like this and please fix it or you'll take it further.

    i have 2009 diesel i wonder which "Series" mounts i have?

      I bought a new 2008 VX Prado and it took 2 years for Toyota (SciFleet Kedron) to fix - asked them every service about the vibration and they kept saying they could find nothing wrong - very bad vibration at idle (sometimes) and on acceleration - I eventually found something on the web to say it was engine mounts and Sci-Fleet replaced them no-questions as soon as I raised this - expect they knew all along based on the reactions I got when I asked about engine mounts. So after 2 years (and about 60,000km) the car actually runs as it should - about $60k++ for a car that took 2yrs to fix - made a huge difference to way the car drives - as I said to them, its almost as smooth as a Mitsubishi deisel now!!

          The original mounts do a fantastic job at dampening out the vibrations. If you want to see how good they are put your hand on the transfer case lever or even place an object against it while you drive. Really vibrates.

          The softer the mount the less vibration but in general they have a far shorter life.

          Renault Megane turbos have engine mounts that are virtually a service item being replaced around every 5 yrs or so along with the timing belt.

          If the mounts are stiffer then it will vibrate more. The service guy may have made his comment along these lines but delivered it poorly or it was taken in the wrong way.

          Not much to be done from a mechanical perspective.

              There have been plenty of engine mounts replaced on the D4D engines in the prados and I havnt heard of the harsh vibration been an issue afterwoods, member that I know of on here has had them replaced twice with no issues afterwoods. Not so bad if needing replacing, roughly $125 each for the part, same part for either side. Go back and tell them you didnt pay that sort of money for it to feel like an 90 model 2.8D hilux, actually I had 89 2.D hilux and didnt have any vibrations like you describe. So glad I got V6 4L petrol 120 this time (blown head on my last diesel prado), yes it uses more fuel (no doubt) but so far there isnt the issues these D4D's seem to keep having. engine mounts, vibrations, injectors, induction vibrations on the 150's, blown number 1 piston from leaking injectro due to carbon build up. Toyota need to pick up their game and supply a A grade product that they ask the same $$ for, otherwise people are going to start jumping ship like some have already, and there warranty starting to sound like Nissans..........Cheers Steve
