    Diesel With LPG

    Hi there Whatever

I have now been running LPG on my 07 1KD D4D now since Oct 2008 and i am still very happy

(I did get an official letter off Toyota (Which i still have! saying "warranty void on engine" whilst i was chasing other warranty claims at the time! The LAW states they TOYOTA or any dealer can NOT void ANY warranty UNLESS THEY can PROVE the LPG causes engine damage if there was to be a claim Lol.

Doesn't matter now as car is now out of warranty.

My system runs on vapor and not liquid injection! I have a 36Ltr LPG tank fitted on the O/S (drivers side) and it only holds 24ltr of LPG in order to sustain an adequate vapor gap in the tank. (The LPG tank only sits 1/2" lower than main tank).

Even though i still carry 180Ltr of diesel i can still achieve 2,050km on 160ltr of diesel with 1 x tank of LPG. (24Ltr).
Approx 8-ltr per 100km for diesel and Approx 1-ltr per 100km of LPG.

Those figures are achieved when doing a round trip to Queensland from the central coast (NSW).

NOTE: When my orange reserve light comes on i still have 30ltr of diesel left in the tank (Providing the bouser isn't ripping me off.

As the system i have only runs on vapor it is regulated via a regulator that is activated buy turbo boost pressure only and only releases approx 15% mix of LPG into the engine once certain boost pressures are met. (Does not use LPG when idling or low boost).

I chose this system over liquid gas injection at the time as it does not run any electronics or tap into any electronics (Apart from the LPG shut off valve for the LPG tank). If the gas was to run out it goes back to running normal on diesel as the LPG is a closed system so no need to switch it off despite the fact that i can if i want to and there is a LED fuel gauge on the on/off switch.

The LPG can be set to come in on a lower or higher boost pressure depending on if pulling heavy loads or not (Camper van etc).

I have left mine at factory spec as my Prado is pretty much standard apart from sovereign bull bar/2" lift/ Safari Snorkel and 265/70/17 H/t tyres .

I also fitted a high flow catalytic converter (3" 100 cpsi onto 2.5" system. Standard is 200cpsi=Cells-Per-Square-Inch) for larger surface area to help the engine breath and respond better.

The car does go very hard and responds well down low and high but still has good fuel consumption.

The conversion back then cost me $3,700 less the $2,000 gov rebate.

The LPG filler cap has been installed in the same place as the diesel filler so no holes drilled on the external of car.

Hope i answered all your questions and more!

PS I do notice more LPG usage on long trips as appose to city driving. Cant give accurate town figures as only run $50 diesel in tank and only brim the tank on long trips. (Wastes fuel carrying fuel).

    Cheers

    Chris
