  • i need someone to work on my D4D engine

Gidday PPers, after reading all the threads about the amount of goop / gunk likely to be blocking the intercooler and manifold and also the probable cause beeing the EGR valve i have decided that due to the Ks (170) my prado has travelled its likely time for an engine degung.

The problem i have is i am unable to undetake this procedure myself so am looking for a PP that could do the job for me ($$ to be decided) or if they can recommend someone or a workshop in Western Sydney that would be able to or has already done the job for one of you PPers.

I would really appreciate your help with this one as i am planning on hooking up the 2 tonne caravan and heading around aus in a couple of months so would like the Prado to be running really sweet by then.

I notice a variation of rpm during idle which would suggest the throttle body needs a clean as well.

    Thanks guys

    Frederick.(once were worriers)

I'm looking at the same thing and I am also out west of Sydney. My usual mechanic seems to believe that you don't need to remove the mainfold and can treat it using the spray solution. I will wait until you get some other responses before I decide as I would prefer to have the manifold removed and done that way. Maybe we can ask damo to do it for us

Hi, yes i have also thought about the spray (WHICH SPRAY FOR STARTERS) as a short term solution but am not sure really still but if i have to i will try it if i can understand where to spray into which hose etc. I guess you remove the large hose that goes from the aircleaner down into the intercooler and spray directly into the intercooler i think??
I also agree maybe Damo would be the man for the job if he wants it.

        Hi Frederick

I would say forget the spray. The amount of gunk that was inside mine needed to be scraped away and then tanked in petrol for a while to clean it all. Plus, where is all the junk going if the engine is running?

If your shelling out the $$ your mechanic should do whatever you ask as long as its not immoral or illegal

Hi guys, thanks for the replies but unfortunately i do not have a mechanic other than Penrith Toyota so i guess i will ask them if someone else can't recommend anyone local.

          Cheers

Davros is in your area and has a mechanic nearby. Maybe PM him.

Hi, from Davros recommendation i have the Prado booked in with a local diesel mechanic this Friday for a throttle body degunk etc so will advise you of the results. I will be away on the gold coast chasing the little white ball for a week so will update PP on my return

              Thanks

Don't use spray. A mechanic mate of mine was using it on a diesel Triton and nearly blew the engine up when, we suspect, a piece of gunk dropped into the top of the cylinder and the engine wouldn't shut down. One injector kept feeding fuel aparently.

Hi ToeEdge, thanks for the advise and it will be a strip down and clean out not spray in while running.

                  Cheers

Throttle body was cleaned out as planned and it was in better condition than we expected with regards to soot build up etc, however the EGR valve was almost totally blocked. I will post pictures if i work out how to.

                    Cheers
