Just to expand a bit, worn valve stem seals normally show up as BLUE smoke at start up after being parked overnight. The oil weeps past the seal, onto the valve stem. When the engine starts it burns off causing the smoke.
However, valve stem seals usually only leak if the valves are worn anyway and flogging around. Otherwise they just go straight in and out of the seal lubricated by a smear of oil and dont stretch the seal.
White smoke is often a sign that the fuel is not burning correctly (not to be confused with black smoke due to overfuelling)
There have been issues with the injectors on the D4D engine. Has it been rattling of a morning. If you do a search (use google and pradopoint tag) for injectors rattling you should get heaps of info.Last edited by tassie tiger; 04-10-2011, 12:39 PM.2009 120 V6 Auto. 265/70/17 Goodyear Silent Armours. White smoke is definately fuel. I would have thought that if a dealer did the investigation they would have used the scan tool and determined that the injectors are within spec? Stem seals will still be fine after 120,000km. It is possible that the glow plugs are an issue but first of all call the dealer and ask if they tested the injectors and whether they were within spec. Assume it doesn't blow any smoke when the engine is warm?My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

I just noticed white smoke at start up this past week, after leaving it for a few hours. A bit worse when vehicle parked nose down hill for some reason.
85000km's and out of warranty.
How much are those injectors Roo???2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

I'd be trying a dose of injector cleaner first. It would be a lot cheaper if it works. I had a bit of a rattle. A bottle of Neulon injector cleaner in tank fixed the problem. It sounded crap while in the tank, (i think because it lowers the ?Cetane rating), but since then it has been like a kitten.Greg - 08 D4D Prado,
