  • Rhino RA v3 car alarm installation

I finally got around to start to install a Rhino alarm system but I have hit a bit of problem. I have installed alarms before in toyota's however the Prado electrics have me stumped.

Has anyone fitted one of thee rhine RA v3 alrams into a Prado?I need information on where to connect for the indicators central locking imobilisation etc. Or as the Rhino alarm instrutctions show there is there a way to use the exisiting remote key circuit ("factory Remote Interface" as shown on page 14 of the Rhino manual)

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers

From memory fitting my mongoose system:

Flasher relay is behind fuse box under dash drivers side, I think I picked up the flasher wiring
in the form going to the steering wheel stork.

Central locking wires were pickep up in the drivers side kick panel.

In my 2008 gxl I could not locate the lock unlock signal from the drivers side key lock, it seems this may
have been moved to the CAN bus but is not shown on the schematics as such.

I ended up using the flash signal from the lights that flash when you unlock the car with the remote.
If you do this you need to make up a logic circuit using a couple of diodes and a resistor to prevent
the alarm being fooled if someone presses the hazard button.

I used the output of the body computer that brings up the door ajar led in the dash for the alarm trip
as I didn't want to wire each door back to the alarm as all door have individual inputs into the body ECU.

Over was quite involved, if your not very confident and have access to the cars schematics I would get a
      proffesional to wire it in.

      Cheers

        Leigh,

Thanks for the reply. I to have a D4D 2008 model although it is a VX. This is my first foray into the Prado's wirring so I am slowly getting familuar where everything is located.

I have the schematics and I had my suspicions that the flasher relay is behind the fuse box (T10 I believe) but I had trouble getting int there to find it. What I was going to do to is use the hazards for the blonkers flashes. The alarm put outs a 4amp left and right blinker circuit and I was going to tie these together and wire it to the hazard switch. This should give me a 8amp load whcih is about right when you factor in a 5watt indicator lamp(s). Would this work? If I have read the wiring schematics right the hazard circuit switches negative?

Also where is the wire that the remote uses to flash the lights? I could manage a (backing) diode set up if this makes the install easier.

Also I used the drivers door negative switched wire for the alrm door input. You are correct as only the drviers door wwill activate it so I guess I could try and wire striaght from the dome light fitting or from the body ECU.

Where is the body ecu located?

Any information or advice on the above would be great.

        Cheers

        Andrew
