  • Need to use shift lock button everytime?

    Gday,

I have run into the problem that whenever I put the prado into park I have to press the 'shift lock' button to get it out of park. It started after I towed a horse float and parked on a slight incline. Its becoming very annoying esp when having to jump in and out of the car to open gates on the farm.

Anyone got any ideas on whats causing the problem or a fix for this?

    cheers

AFAIK in every auto you need to push the shift lock to get it out of park. Maybe just knock it into neutral and back into drive when jumping in and out of the car

AFAIK you shouldnt need to push the shift lock button ever the simple fix to the problem is check the brake fuse under the bonnet you will most probably find the fuse has blown it happened to me and took a while to work it out

If the problem started after towing your horse float, then i reckon that the trailer wiring has shorted out the fuse in your brake lights.

Change fuse and re-wire trailer and all should be well.

Yep brake fuse, under the bonnet, cruise control light will flash as well if you try to use it.

nope not the case, you only need to use the shift lock button in the Prado if the brake pedal is not pressed. It stops someone accidentally nocking the shift lever into gear when noone is at the wheel.

Bingo! On the money. The cruise control light was flashing on my way down to Sydney today.

                Thanks for the replies
