  • EGR mods???

    Hi all,

Has anyone here looked into or actually blocked off the EGR on their 150 D4D Prado, I have read many other forums regarding doing it to other brands of Diesel powered Vehicles, but nothing here, it is one of the most basic mods with some of the best results, I am wondering why it has not been mentioned for the D4D yet.

I have done my 2011 D40 STX Navara, and my 2002 HDJ79R cruiser with great results, the Prado will be next.

Any thoughts or information would be good.

    Thanks

Just thought I would bring this one up the list again, it seems to have slipped out of view. Having just picked up my 150 D4D gxl last week (must do a mrbu) I am also keen to do this. Having had a poke around under the bonnet, as one does, I can't see anything that looks familiar. There is a vacume diaphragm on top at the rear of the engine with a couple of pipes going places but not sure where, is this the right thing? Any help or advice would be appreciated by both of us I guess.

    regards

      Have alook through this thread.

The 150 probably uses a similar vacuum setup.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

Thanks Davros. Have had a look at this thread and I think the 150 is similar but would like to see a 120 to compare. If it is where I think it is mine has a white check valve, will PM Mickl to see if he can get a photo. .

Could be a bit difficult as the 120 has the IC on top where as the 150 is in front

        Regards

EGR "blank" available from ChipIt has a hole in the middle.
Appears it restricts rather than completely blocks it off.
I wonder that maybe there needs to be some gasses getting through to keep the ECU happy?
          Cheers

                Hi there,

I blocked the hose with a ball bearing, car seemed to go better, but gave a warning T4 Low

Put back to normal & computer reset by Dealer, no problem.

I remember reading something about excess boost being dumped into the EGR system on variable pitch turbos with no waste gates. Hence the need for the hole in Chip-It's EGR blanking plate.

                    Just reviving an old thread,

I removed my ChipIt chip for the car's 40k service, yesterday when I refitted it I installed the EGR blanking plate I bought with the chip, fortunately I had my Dremel handy or it wouldn't have fitted, but that's another story.

The plate has a 10mm hole in the middle, so as stated above and in other threads, it's more an EGR reducing plate.

                    My initial impressions are,

1/ the engine is noticably quieter on start up, I have no idea why. When I leave home there is about a 1 k uphill street, when the car is cold it rattles a bit, yesterday after fitting the plate it was much quieter. It was as quiet cold as it normally is warm.

2/ it seems happy to pull and hold lower in the rev range, there is a long steady uphill near home that the car usually sits comfortably at 80 k's in 5th gear (1,500 rpm), drop below 1,500 and it kicks down to 4th, I had three goes yesterday and it held at 1,300. Engine didn't seem to be labouring at all.

3/ low revs seem to be just a bit smoother under all circumstances that I tried, no towing as yet.

This is all seat of the pants, no dyno, in fact no real science at all just how it seems.

I'll give it a week and post an update.
