• Roo Systems chip and exhaust

G'day everyone,

I have been given a quote for the roo systems chip and 3" exhaust for the 150. Its a touch over 3500. (chip, exhaust, tuning, install)
Has anybody got this system in their 150 or know of anyone who has?
I am very curious about overall performance from the normal people rather than what i hear and see on 4wd Action. Not saying its not a quality product, just interested in different feedback, especially if i am going to part with that much coin.

Cheers
Todd

Looking at it, it is the same as almost all the others out there, DP etc, they simply boost fuel presure, not rocket science.

If it were my $3500. I would be getting a Chip-it, unit, $900. and I think there are some discounts on offer for Pradopoint members, a Beaudesert exhaust, which are about as good as they come, allthough the Manta also like like a decent thing too.

Fitting on the prado is about as easy as it gets, If I could not have the factory system of and new one one in under an hour I would be upset.

The Chip-it chip is plug and play.

You can get it custom tuned, I would once you have done all the engine mods you plan on, like exhaust, snorkle, etc but I dont know if you will need to unless you have scecific requirments, most seem happy with the results with stock tunes, dont forget that Chip-it give you a choice of 15 different tunes all ramping up in power as you go.

I sound like a Chip-it Add, but I have been reading alot about the "chips" lately as I am after one for both my Prado 150 and my Navara STX, I keen to buy the same type. Chip-it just seem to be the one that is coming out on top, with results and nice options.

Thanks for the input Eugene,
Yeah this is alot out there I guess it comes down to personal preference. But i will certainly do some research on the chip it system.

I've just ordered the chip and exhaust package from Roo Systems. Hanging out.. apparently they make 3 different chips, cheapy not really recommended for the commonrail, the plug and play and also another type, they reckon it works a bit like the Stienbauer (that's the one I ordered). It can be programmed more. Let you know how it all turns out, might be a few weeks until I get it and get it installed.

Holy smokes.... $3500 for an exhaust and chip

I gather u plan on keeping the car for a long time.... What sort of % increase in power/performance do u get?. I assume it gets Dyno'd before so u can compare the differences? Would be good if u can post the results up
cheers..... Rob (macca)

Much cheaper than a new car!! I paid quite a bit less than that price. Supposed to be around. 30% more power, over 500 nm of torque more kw's has got to be good

I have an 09 Prado 150. About 3 months ago i had the chip installed that they recommended and had the exhaust done. They did the install for me at their new workshop...

I agree there is a definite increase in power however... I have already been back once to have it retuned as it was surging at low rpm, 2500 or so. This weekend i went away for a trip through mount tamborine and the whole way up and around the mountain the car kept surging again and also had serious lag as i came out of the hair pin bends. You put your foot down, the car begins to acelerate, then the cip cuts in and the car dies for half a second then leaps to life... I will be calling them tomorrow to discuss...

At this stage, i would advise against this chip.

I had nothing but problems with my Roo Systems Chip setup in my 120. I had both types, plug and play and the Stienbauer style of soldering wires into a loom. I found the customer service was pretty average too. This was just over a year ago but recently I have called them and there are new people on the phones who seem to be a lot better. They actually call you back!

I also would advise against the chip for the Prado. I am sure it would be a different story with other vehicles, but the D4D just doesn't seem to like it.

Sent my Roo systems chip back and fitted a Chip It module = no more problems
IF you tow something with your wagon put some airbags in or it will bang on the exhaust bad.

Mate of mine ordered the exhaust, when delivered there were bits missing, and the job was pretty rough. In hindsight he wouldn't go with them again.

Well, all installed and yes it's a beast.
Had an issue with the Chip, sent it back and it came back quickly, plugged back in and no probs.
So I've I had the car with just the 3 inch exhaust, and then both.
The car with the exhaust only is seriously very good. The turbo comes on earlier and you have alot more power. With the Chip, the power is on earlier from the exhaust but it keeps going harder as the revs build up.
I'd have to say if you only did the exhaust you'd be very happy, the chip is just the cream.
The chip I got was the RAPID Chip, hard wired in and has a easy plug to remove if required. They reckon it's better for the D4D.
Overall it really does transform the car.

Afternoon gents,

I'm a recent Prado owner - 2008 D4D GXL & loving it

I'm also looking at a chip & exhaust package but find the whole deal quite confusing to navigate. Roo Systems are recommending a custom tuned chip with S/S 3" exhaust system (not fitted) for $2740 delivered to the Central Coast. The thread above doesn't rate the chips very well, is that still the case, are people still unhappy with that particular product?

cheers

Ray
