  • Injector Clean At Service

    Hi all,
    I dropped my 150 D4D in today for it's 30 thou service.
The dealer rang me a little while later to say they wanted to clean the injectors, as they normally like to do that at the20 thou service however they wanted to charge me an additional $200.00 for the pleasure.
As this is my first diesel, is this the norm or am I being taken for a ride?
I had the 20 thou service done by a dealer in Launceston when I was down there and they never mentioned anything about cleaning the injectors!

it is probly just using their aftermarket stuff. If you look in your service manual it does not state as an item that is required. What they are trying to do is up sell as they make lots money out of this.

these injectors are very expensive to repalce if they fail at least $700 each

If they need cleaning as a matter of course at 20 or 30k then it would be in the service schedule and covered under your fixed price servicing. If it is a case that yours need cleaning due to a fault then it should be a warranty claim. Sounds like someone trying to boost their profits to me.

      Cheers Andrew

I kindly declined the offer, and as the others mentioned, it's not in the service manual, and I've been around long enough to be a bit wary of dealers "add ons".
I'll again delcline the offer at the 40 thou service too!

A guy I work with had his wife drop off their Captiva for a $300.00 service and picked it up later that day with the wallet lightened by $1100.00.

$700 for the 30thou service??? and another $300 for the old injector clean trick. Unfortunately the guy or his wife are not car savvy and thought this was normal so paid it without question.

Paid without question. Gee, I wish my customers were more like that, can I have his phone number? I have educated my customers in case I die, stupid me. No only kidding, I wouldn't have it any other way as one of my customers watches me write this in.

                Hi to the Roo,

When would you give it a dose at the 20k mark as a preventative measure or as a treatment when you get symptoms ??

I have only used BP diesel since the Prado was about 2 months old.

                Cheers

hey dobbo im guessing that your local sutherland shire toyota dealer is the culprit because they have done exactly the same to my missus .luckily i answered the phone an told them to f*#k off and that a petrol corrolla thats done 12000ks does not need its fuel system cleaned for $140 dollars and if i thought it did id put a bottle in myself for $6 . i also pointed out that they should wash the engine bay after the service so that i can't tell exactly what they haven't touched. we won't be going back .

When I am home I only give the vehicle a dose once a month because I trust the local BP (Wellington Point) where I buy my fuel from. With the Prados we are pretty lucky because of the fuel capacity they can carry. What I am saying is that it is a good idea to fill up from only one source when you are not travelling. This way, if you get a bad batch, you know where it came from and you can take the steps to do something about it. This is just what I do anyway and after years of owning diesels I've only had one problem. That was at the Shell at three ways on our way up to the north west, water in the fuel which didn't get past the fuel filter.
                      Hope this helps, the Roo.
My wife reckons I'm loopy only using the same BP service station for fuel especially when I have to go out of my way sometimes to fill up. But I agree with Roo, the bloke I go to has a high flow pump and the diesel price is always about 4 -5 cents cheaper than the other BP down the road so he gets my business.
