  • Reserve tank pump problems

I have a mate with a 08 D4D with 17,000 k on the clock, and it keeps on stopping due to the what seems to be the reserve tank not pumping over to the main tank, it has been in to the dealer twice now and it happened again last night for the third time. he had to put some diesel in to start again, the pump has now been replaced two weeks ago but as stated b4 it stopped again last night.
    Q. has any one had this problem ?
    Q. dose anyone have any ideas ?

It is every tank, or every second time he fills it?
I had this issue on my petrol before.
Every time I drained both tanks to the red light being on, the next time It would get to the first 90, then about 5 or so litres after that it would die.
No idea what the cause is, but it seems to of fixed itself for now....
My thoughts was like an air lock causing it to not pump properly. no proof though.

Hi, This is my first time on Prado Point and love it. I have a 07 D4D Prado and I had the same problem about 8 months ago driving back from Moonta Bay in South Australia. Luckily I was on the M2 and not far home; I had 3/4 tank of fuel in the sub and she just died on me, I got her started again and got home. I tried to put more fuel in and could only get 75ltrs into her. Toyota had it for about 8 days and could not find the problem, they said to take the car home and if it happened again bring it back. I was talking to one of my mates before I picked her up and he told me to get them to look at the fuel sender guage and the fuel pumps before I got it back and bingo. A week and half later, and $3500 out of pocket I got my her back, and yes it was also 4 weeks out of warranty. I fought Toyota and only had to pay for the labour which was $600; and touch wood, I have not had any problems since. I have had a friend of a friend who had the same problem with his 08 D4D.

I thought they didnt have a 'pump' but a venturi thingamajig that syphoned the fuel between the two constantly. So it doesnt pump from the one to the other but just circulates.

            not a prob,
I found the job sheet they gave me when i picked up the truck and the pump was called a cross over pump witch controls the fuel flow from the sub to the main tank hope this helps.

            Cheers Russ
