  • Rotten Egg Smell When Accelerating

I've recently been getting a rotten egg smell in the cabin when I accelerate hard up hills or long inclines. Anyone else had this problem and know what the cause and cure is?

    Thanks,

Weird. Kids drop an egg sandwich maybe? Rotten egg smellng gas is hydrogen sulfide, but not sure why you would smell this from diesel or unleaded, although exhaust gases may be an answer.

On most petrol cars, a sulfur smell or 'rotten egg' smell may come from the exhaust. The smell is usually noticed after a cold start, fast idle, extended periods of idling and full throttle acceleration.

The Sulfur smell is not of concern and will not cause reduced driveability or durability of the engine or anything else.

The 'rotten egg' smell is caused by high amounts of sulfur in the petrol being used in the vehicle. Sulfur is normally eliminated during the refining process.

When high sulfur fuel is burned, there is a chemical reaction in the catalytic converter causing the sulfur to oxidize.

if you notice excessive amounts of this smell, it may also mean that your catalytic converter(s) may be cactus or on their way out.

to stop the smell, maybe give it a little less right boot, or even try changing servo's???

Thanks guys. I'll try a different servo. I've been using Shell diesel recently as I get better mileage on it compared to Caltex.

Wish I could. Leaseplan don't issue BP cards unless you live in a rural area.

Lay off the cabbage and beans perhaps?
