  • Fog lights not working

    Hi all,
my fog lights are not working, (bulbs and fuses both fine) my mechanic advised that the problem was up in the switch and it would be a few hundred to source a new switch.
Has anyone had any problems similar to this and had a go at fixing it?
    Thanks!

I take it your switch is on the same stork/lever as your headlights?

    Have they worked previously?

Yep same lever, no problem at all with headlights though.
I only bought the car a month ago and they weren't working when I got it.

I've had a similar problem with a different car. It was the terminals in the actual stem of the turn signal. Source a and hand unit, needed to take the steering wheel off and replace it, as it was the section that also does the indicators. A bit of messing around involved, can you just wire the fogies to the headlights, so they come on when you turn the headlights on? That's if you don't want to fork out the $$$

On the spot fine though (in Qld) for driving with Fog lights on when there is no "inclement weather". Not to mention it's bloody annoying having everyone driving around these days with the fog lights on when not required. If it is the switch on the stem and you don't have the coin (after trying the wreckers), You could always put a switch on the dash....

Thought of doing that, but as Craig said the police are on the hunt for people using fog lights these days.

Didn't think of that switch idea, not a bad one.

Are you sure it is the switch? The fog use the same relay as the aircon mag clutch, which is a known common failure in the aircon. I don't have the part no's handy, but toyota released a replacement relay that works better.

If Geo's post doesnt help then just wire them to a manual switch.

I probably should add that an easy way to test the relay is to swap it with the aircon mag clutch relay as they are identical.
