  • 2 Stroke oil in fuel

    Anyone use/ add 2 stroke oil to your diesel fuel ?
    Saw comments on the 4x4Patrol forum and have been using it from 90,000klm's to current 172,000klm's. Engine much quieter with "AirCooled" 2 stroke added at rate of approx 400 to 1. (800 ml to 200 ltrs)

      I inject olive oil in my arm at 10ml per litre of beer.........sweet as!

      Just stirring....

      Seriously, it doesnt matter whether or not its quieter. Everything is machined to the correct tolerance from the factory and that tolerance does not take into account the addition of two stroke oil in the fuel.

      Waste of money and the only outcome is it can gum up the injection system and/or carbon up the combustion chamber.

      Dont believe me, pull the head off a two stroke mower and then a four stroke one. Two stroke will be carboned up.

        To a degree,using a low ash synthetic 2 stroke oil mixed at 25:1 will see no more carbon build up then a four stroke. They also run a hotter plug then the four stroke

          Castrol 2t is the go, 200 to one, block EGR, fit catch can.
          Engine will live longer and fuel consumption better, quieter motor etc etc, all good
          I have been using this for two years, no complaints.
          Cheers.

            Not having a go here but being serious.

            How does the engine live longer?

            Explain mechanically how it lasts longer.

            How does adding two stroke oil into the combustion chamber lengthen engine life? What components life is extended and how?.

            How does it increase the fuel system life?

            What other components does it effect?

            cheers

            PS:
            Here was a link from a previous thread that may be of interest;
            I have a bog stock 120 TD and have run the test in another thread where I am monitoring different fuel brands and tracking the difference in fuel economy as the mods go on.

            See here for the full thread;

            and here is the two stroke test;

            LITRES PER 100K'S
            11.7 LPH.

            Filled up with Woolworths diesel.

            Interesting that I got EXACTLY the same economy as before.

            This was the tank that I put the litre of two stroke oil in the tank at the suggested rate.

            It did nothing to the fuel economy, nothing to the power (well of course it cant because the only possible outcome is for it to lower the flash point as its a heavier oil than the diesel.

            Was it quieter. Maybe. I think it sounded a little quieter but had no means of measuring it.

            There is a definite increase in fumes from the exhaust when idling.

            Plus you need to factor in another $12ish for the oil which would buy another 9l of diesel which effectively changes the fuel economy from 11.7 to 12.3 lphk.
            So IMO its a crock.

            The ONLY benefit is that it might make it a little quieter. But the only thing that it can possibly make quieter is the fuel pump. And they are built to tolerance. So pumping through sticky oil is going to do MORE damage by gunking it up than to leave it out.

              Hi all

              Read this article, appeared in Brisbane Courier Mail Sat 23rd July, it says this V8 Diesel Actros supplied to ADF can run on Kerosene as well as diesel, so why do we need added lube.

                Old Jet A1 aviation fuel (kerosene) is routinely used instead of diesel for drip torches (those things used to light back burns/hazard reduction burns) as it has very similar characteristics to diesel. Interesting to see how it would go in a normal diesel.

                  Two stroke oil is a very light oil,think about what it is designed for. If you can run used cooking oil through a diesel then affectively 2 stroke will have no detrimental effects.

If you want to through away over a $1000.00 just keep on using two stroke oil. The fuel systems in modern diesel engines are designed around low sulphur diesel fuel which is quite a dry fuel compared to some of the older fuels. That in itself should be enough evidence for anyone considering this stupid idea. If you have actually pulled down a injector pump or a supply pump you will know what I mean by stupid, the tolerances are very fine indeed. If you really want to do something good for your rig, use a 50+ cetane diesel fuel like BP even though I hate the brand.
