Hi all,
I recently installed a Racor filter and associated water detector alarm to my car.
I like all accessories I fit to my car to have a low visual impact and wanted the water
detect light to look a tad smarter than the supplied lamp so came up with
the following solution and thought others might be interested.
To tackle this project you will need to have reasonable electrical, soldering and
mechanical skills.
My solution was to use an after market fog lamp switch as used by others and
myself for switching driving lights, a picture of the switch assembly is attached.
I reconfigured the switch by dismantaling it, cutting the PCB tracks and rewiring as
required, see attached wiring diagram. I substituted a super bright LED for the original
switch on lamp and blacked out the press button with a permanent marker so that only
the wavy lines are left to represent water.
I have used one of the blank switch position to the left of the steering wheel to mount
the switch.
Piezzo alarm is glued behind the lower dash panel.
A fair bit of mucking about but a very professional result was achieved.
Fuctions as follow:
When water detected siren sounds and bright red light indication from switch.
To cancel audible alarm press switch, siren turns off. Note when switch is on the
bright red light will remain on even if alarm clears to remind the driver to turn
switch off.
Cheers
