  • 100ltrs of petrol into the 3ltr (diesel) tank...

Yes,I hate to admit it but it Was me, not the Mrs,,happened about 3 months ago and it has been getting harder to start in the mornings, some mornings not firring up at all, have had the glow plugs checked, fine,: is down a little on power but in every other way runs fine after that initial start for the day,had Toyota put the diagnostic tool on($200) for 10mins but came up with nothing, have been thinking that I have damaged the pump and/or injectors and a mate suggested may have stuffed the top compression ring? The car is 2005 model the old motor and has 137k ks, does anyone have any ideas Please,Live in Muswellbrook NSW. Thanks All

Compression test first. Everything will go off that. If its hard to start when cold, and then okay afterwards, its probably rings. When you do the comp test do a second test with a squirt of oil to seal the rings on the second run. See what the diff is.

Just out of curiousity, you haven't specified that you drained both your tanks and did a complete refill?
I assume you did of course...

mate, have a word with Dieselcare in Tamworth. I think the top bod there is John. Has a good reputation. Spoke to him at the Maitland show and they're very well equipped and experienced

Better than going to the main dealer

Did you run it with the petrol before realising what you did or is all this just from having it in the tank?

Probably find a lot of us have done his, I put almost ten litre in the 4.2 nissan one day befor I realised the petrol smell was comming from my fill, 10 litre in 92, I just drove on, it didnt seem to faze the nissan. The servo was changing the pump positions and hadn't swaped the hand piece's over, I didnt look at the bowzer, as I filled from that paticular one all the time. They wanted to make it easier for 4wd 's
with boats to get through, so were changing bowser positions. My grandad filled his v8 up at a local servo, we were going to a town 270kilometers away. in W.A. towns are a fair way apart. The car was running rough, white smoke, the cops at the next town stoped us, the servo operator had called them to let us know the tanker driver had toped up their petrol bowser with diesel. The fuel company paid all cost's to drain and refill the tank, and oil change. The v8 didnt seem to have suffered any damage. Just latly, at a Perth servo, I filled my almost empty 90 litre boat tank up with petrol, the 115 suzuky run like a steam train, smoky, no power, smell like a diesel. turns out they had a "little" bit of diesel in their bowser, most likley due to the delivery tanker not being empty when it picked up their load of petrol. I drained it out, it runs fine in the 60hp two stroke tohatsu, and even ok in the comodore. I am to tight to wast it.
My friend who worked for B.P. said they always drained the tankers fairly thoroughly befor changing fuel types, but slipups did happen.
