  • Cruise Control

Fellow Prado owners, cruise control has been annoying me. Why is it every time I start the car I have to turn the cruise control on? yeah yeah alright I know fussy, but it annoys the sh1t out of me.
Does anyone know if there is a simple fix to have it on when the ignition is on?

In this thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...ut-your-Prado& the main complaint about the Prado seems to be the cruise, I agree it is not good, I hardly use it.

In one of the posts Leachy mentions he has a GX with after market cruise that works well, you could ditch the standard cruise and fit after market I haven't heard of any fix for the issue and it has been discussed a fair bit.

      Cheers Andrew

I would not consider it normal on any vehicle. It does it on my current 09 120 V6 and it did it on my previous 03 120 V6. It also does it on my son in law's new Avalon. I've gotten so used to it now that I can easily predict when it's going to rev it's ring out, and I will switch it off just before it happens. It will happen every time on long up hill climbs. I've owned many different vehicles with cruise controls and can honestly say that this one's the worst I've experienced.

I don't think its the cruise control thats the issue, from my observations it appears when
you engage the cruise control the engine management system remaps the shift pattern.

Example if your going up a hill and the speeds holding ok engaging the cruise control causes
the transmission to down shift when it doesn't need to.

I assume they did this to make the crusie control more responsive, it hasn't worked and
annoys the crap out of me also. I now only use the cruise control in flat country with no wind
            blowing.

            Cheers

As I only seem to engage cruise control when I'm up to speed I was thinking that if there was a way to "lock" the transmission in gear (like a manual) so that it wont drop back gears yet automatically disengage when the cruise control does. I don't mind that it slowly slows down up big hills ( I can always use the pedal on the right). Wouldn't it be more efficient to slow down going up hill and reaccelerate going back down.

Would be unfortunately you don't have that option.

There is a way to modify the gearbox to do that, but It would be a cheaper option maybe to remove the current cruise and fit an after market one in its place
