  • Gas addition to diesel

    Hi all,
    not sure if this has been covered before thinking about adding a separate lp gas tank to run with the diesel giving it a 3 diesel to 1 gas mix. Really dont know to much about this or if it may cause long term damage to the motor, any advice would be appreciated. My Prado is an '08 D4D manual.

    Hi Ray I had my 4.2 GU Patrol converted to gas and diesel, power was up a good 15% and the economy went from 14lt per hundred down to 11.which was great.Looking at the Prado i think you would need to lose a fuel tank to get the gas tank in. The patrol cost $1700.00 after the government rebate as the Prado is already good on fuel and the 180 lt fuel is great i figured it was not worth the money.I had no problems with the fit or reliabilty with the conversion.

      G'day Ray,
      like Bribiejohn, I to have my 4.2D GU Patrol (ute) running with gas and Diesel, the power difference is quite noticable and the economy improved. The 4.2 Patrol is old technology and responds well to the gas addition. The newer motors with much better fuel injection tequineques do respond but not as well. As mentioned, the Prado is already good on fuel so don't know if you would ever recoup the outlay.

        Where do they put the gas tank?
        2009 120 V6 Auto. 265/70/17 Goodyear Silent Armours. Bilsteins and Kings Springs.

          Thanks for the comments, yes the Prado is good on diesel no doubt and it is questionable as the Prado is quite responsive when I need the extra boost, I agree that I may be wasting money unnecessarily if I can't recoup the cost of trhe conversion but it was worth a thought, maybe in the future a dc chip may be better especially when I am towing my camper trailer, also I am not sure where the gas tank would be fitted, I am led to believe it is under the vehicle running parrallel with the side steps.
