  • Big Red Rear Bumper Lights

Ok, so we have a big pair of red rear bumper lights.
On my Grande they are not wired in, they are actually blanked off which seems the norm.

Since the reverse lights are so pathetic, Id like to replace these bumper lights with a clear alternative or something similar to get some decent reverse lighting and keep with the factory look lights.

Is there anything out there to replace them with?

Shame the original front fogs dont quite fit in the rear

Thanks, but I dont want fog lamps, I want to make them into clear reversing lamps.

I want to find some clear alternatives and wire them up to the existing reversing lights.

          Thanks Andrew
I found these on ebay too, awfully expensive!

          http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....=STRK:MEWAX:IT

If they illuminated white, Id be nearly tempted but still expensive!
Im planning on finding something close to the right shape and possibly setting them into the OEM factory housing with a bit of surgery.
Havent found anything quite right yet though.
          Still looking

Why not just fit a separately wired work/camp light either above the spare or in the centre of the spare (where mine is)? Switch it on when needed for reversing, but also get extra use from it around the campsite.

Id like to keep the OEM look and use to whats there in the bumper but Im interested in what youve got set up in the centre of the spare

Got pics or info on that?
What sort of lamp have you got in the centre, does it have to come off when removing the spare?

              Cheers

Something to consider is that these are not merely "blanked off" lights but reflectors which possibly could be an ADR requirement. Remeber the VX Commodore sedan that had those stupid reflectors in the rear bumber.

I'll get a pic of the light I have.

It's small enough that the spare fits over it , so it can be left in place and connected when taking the spare off or putting it back on.

The light is wired up to 2 switches - one up front to the right of the steering wheel, and one in the cargo area on the passenger side rear pillar (where I also have volt/amp meters plus 3 merit plugs and a switch for the water pump). The switches are setup to work together, so I can either use the one switch to turn the light on and off, or turn it on with one switch then off with the other switch.

Heaps by the looks but they arent any good for anything else anyway.
                          Not much to lose.
Something similar in LED would be good and paint the red bit black :-)

Hey Marc, did you ever get round to doing this?

Reading the long link in the second post about fitting foglights I noticed one of the side tracks the thread took included the statement that reversing lights had to be within 1.2 m of the ground. I guess this makes all those with a rear light mounted above the spare and wired to come on in reverse non-compliant (unless you only use them off-road).

Do you not have to keep the red reflector to remain compliant?
