  • Tapping power from electric seats

I'm planning to add some headrest monitors in the future and a colleague with an LC100 said that he tapped power from his electric seats. This means that there is power constantly on, so he has a switch near the handbrake to isolate it.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram or info on which wire supplies power?

The reason for tapping into a constant on power source is so that the movie which I run off a HDD media player will continue running or paused (say during a toilet stop) without having the engine running. If I shut off the engine, the media player turns off and can't resume the movie.

I would have thought that the easiest way to find out would be to disconnect the plug going to the seat (I presume there would be a plug) and test for power with the ignition off using a test light or a multi meter. Probably quicker and easier than reading a wiring diagram.

    Cheers Andrew

from memory there isnt a lot of space under either front seat in the grande, so trying to find a cable to unplug may prove a little difficult. i would need to go downstairs to doublecheck so will leave that to andrew, i am sure he has had a stick beak there.

andrew - good idea that, have to add that to the pp section of my memory bank. the seats do have constant power so would be good to find the right cable without having to dismantle the car

I got this from a US manual for an 2007 4Runner with power seats... Just be careful if you have airbags in your seats....

Thanks for all the suggestions. Underneath the front of the driver's seat, outboard side, there is a connector with 9 wires going to it. I unplugged it and lost power to the electric seats. One of the wire is red. I'll meter this out when I get home.

My only concern with this setup is blowing the fuse if the 2 screens and HDD media player is running and someone adjusts the seat. I'd imagine this to be unlikely but I'd hate to be driving from ADL to SYD with no rear entertainment because I forgot to buy spare fuses.

When I installed mine I just ran seperate power wires from the battery and I have switches in teh dash to isolate them, they are constant power not via ignition.
You can see how I did it here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-DVD-Headrests
