  • WHO HAS HAD INJECTORS REPLACED BY TOYOTA

I posted on the “diesel rattle” thread about Toyota agreeing to replace 1 faulty injector ‘out of warranty’ .
    ##########,
    I purchased my D4D 7/07.
Since 15/9/07 I have used BP exclusively and yet the rattle only happened in the last few months.

From all the comments I have read it is more like faulty injectors originally installed.

Have just read "Serious problem in Europe" thread viewtopic.php?f=12&t=12211&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

And the pertinent point re my early query about replacement is covered in thread
    Toyota Spain undertakes to:

    - Replacement of the 4 nozzles, where the values are outside the parameters regardless of the number of faulty injectors. The replacement will be made by the new upgraded injectors.

    - It ensures safety stock so that the change is made in the most flexible as possible.

This might come in handy to place before Toyota Australia .
    and
Re my earlier post dealer rang today to advise Toyota have agreed to replace one injector "out of warranty".

Dealer is to check whether it is the superceded injector to be used or the new type.

Anecdotal evidence is that original injectors were faulty and as such I reckon they should replace all 4 with the new type.

Have started the ball rolling with RACQ legal and await a call back from them.
As such I would like the assistance of all those who may have taken legal advice in or out of warranty.

I have extended warranty with Swan Insurance and as such would like to know if those who had replacement done under warranty had all 4 replaced when not all 4 created the noise.

Replacement has to be done by 18/5/11 so I need to get a case together rather quickly so any suggestions and actual evidence would be appreciated.
The replacement injector is the new style and the injector involved was No 4

To date there has been no reply to above and I have started this thread to aid me and others in the ‘out of warranty’ brigade who now have at least 1 faulty injector.

    My main query is

I would like to know if those who had replacement done under warranty had all 4 replaced when not all 4 created the noise.

    Thanks.

    Hi pedro,

We bought a prado brand new in December 2007. Last year on the return from a trip to West Aussie noticed a vibration in the motor at idle rang the toyota dealer and he asked if the ECU had had the upgrade done. What upgrade? Took it to Springwood to Toyota told them about the vibration in the motor they did the upgrade told me to drive it for 1000ks then bring it back. They did a spec check on the injectors 2 were out of spec hence the banging noise in the motor, 4 new ones were ordered and they replaced the engine mounts to see if it would stop the vibration. new Injectors were fitted and since then no more problems. everything was done under warranty. I was told there was a supplier issue with the injectors regarding quality i think pre early 2008 D4D motors then toyota changed suppliers.

      Pedro,

In the other thread (Diesel Rattles) you refer to, I posted that all four injectors were replaced this year (late Jan or early Feb) under warranty although the D4D was technically out of warranty in Dec 2010. Had done just over 80,000km. Mind you, I don't know how you tell if they were actually replaced but it is what the dealer said. It runs much better but still has a bit of a noise when cold, seems ok when warm. The same dealer changed one injector at around 55,000km so it had "history". Maybe just as well I told the son-in-law to report it after watching the thread for a long while.

        Thanks guys,
Just the sort of ammo I need.

One thing I did learn is that there are Non DLC injectors (old style) and the new one referred to as DLC,

I think the D stands for Diamond and the LC possibly "Like Coating" and it is a coating.

Anyway will keep you informed of what transpires.

          Hi Guys,

Well we are going through this issue at the moment as well.
My Prado is a late 06. It has also done a fair amount of KMs 160K. We bought it 2nd hand oct last year. We had the guy we bought it from and an independent testing of the injectors. They were all within range and also the drive home there was no noise and the economy was fine. Well since being out here in Mt Isa we have used caltex fuel and this appears to be the catalyst for the issue. (we will be taking the fight to caltex if toyota dont come to the party)

Our service manager put in an out of warranty claim and Toyota have come back saying "no, too many kms". The service manager is going to try again for us with the help of their internal warranty clerk making a few adjustments. FINGERS CROSSED!.

Now i have also been doing some research and i am going to take this up the line of complaints if i have too. now i can go to the guy who sold it to me as the first point of call, then to toyota, then to ACCC (stat warranty should cover more than 160K kms for a car of this cost and design ie diesel), then Department of Fair trading. Then lawyers which i really dont want to get to, but hopefully if i complain enough they will just relent.

I can tell you all however that if it does get all the way to the end, i will also be making a fair bit of noise about it. that is i will definitely be contacting several news and current affair programs. I will also be letting toyota know that i will also be informing some of the major mining companies (which we have contacts in) about this issue and the potential cost to them, not from replacing but down time of vehicles that need repair.

As you can tell, im not happy about the whole situation. A car that i spent in excess of $30K only 6months ago, now going to cost me another $5k.

Looking forward to seeing what happens with other in this situation.

            Guys some points to remember..

What you see on PP is not officially usable, Pradopoint will in no way back you up, and we also do not like being used as a lever in a situation so to speak..

Yes some members have used info here before to get their way, that also brought legal action against PP.. A point to remember..

Toyota are a massive company and can eat guys like you for breakfast, and also take out web forums like this as well just for a snack.. Just keep all that in mind if your portraying others results from this forum....

Had all 4 of mine replaced - but had the ECU upgrade and also drove the 1000k as per dealer instruction, the injectors were still playing up after that and the dealer came to the party with the warranty replacement... Only cost to me was time...

To be fair - if i recall correctly - the vehicle was under the dealer warranty (2nd hand sale) - not sure if it was under toyota warranty still...

Toyota have not come to the party. They are not even going to help with the cost which i think it poor. This is a known issue with the car and they are not doing the right thing by their customers. Next port of call is QCAT and see if we have a legal case to put forward. $5k is a lot of money.

                    Hi guys.

I've had engine vibrations in my 07 120. Both times turned out to be right hand engine mount. So far its gone twice. Had the injectors checked and were ok.

Does anyone know one sure fire way to check engine mounts on a manual. I have an unusual vibration when reversing up a slope, particularly without enough revs.

                      Thanks

                        Hi All,

I am new to the forum and read this thread with interest. I purchased a new 2008 model Turbo Diesel Prado Grande back in early 2009. I too encountered the engine vibrations after approx 20,000km. I had the car in Toyota numerous times and they eventually changed both engine mounts. This seemed to fix the problem and I no longer experience the vibrations.

I'll certainly be keeping an eye and ear out for the injectors. Is this a common problem in the earlier models?

                        Cheers,

                        JD

can you or someone who's had these explain the symptoms of dodgy engine mounts? Is it vibrating when the car is in Drive and stops when you put it in Neutral?

                            Pjorek,

Both times my engine mounts failed the car would vibrate and "chug" when stopped with your foot on the brake in drive. Yes it would stop when you slipped it to neutral. It wouldn't do it in reverse and thats how the dealer could tell it was the right hand engine mount.

I've had 2 go in 3 and a bit years.

Is it a rattle or a knock,

These engines will rattle its common rail injection is not like standard injection, the most important thing to do is remember all manufacturers are moving this way and are having similar issues, this is a new design to reduce emmisions and other factors, if you look after this engine it will stay strong, clean fuel is a must diesel bug or water will damage certain parts, drain the fuel sedimenter, but if ever in doubt take it to the pros, many issues are occuring due to back yarders being un aware of the new technology engines,If you use the pros and have a warranty you should be trouble free, remember what you pay for is what you get but if in doubt check it out but use the people who know this new engine or you may find your opening a can of worms.
