  • 1kz-te Injection pump removal

Hi guys, hoping you can help a newbie out with some pointers on removing the injection pump. I have spent weeks reading various posts and looking on various websites for guides or information on how to do this. Using the Factory manual i have got to a point but have now ground to a halt trying to remove the pump from the housing.

    Steps so far:

    1. removed all electrical plugs and fuel lines
    2. removed injector lines from rear of pump
    3. removed rear mounting bolts and mount.
    4. removed insulating block
    5. removed 2 x housing/timing adjustment nuts
    6. marked timing belt and aligned to timing marks
    7. loosened pump shaft nut in center of pulley

ok, now the pump flops around and swivels in the housing but i cant get the pulley off. From what i understand you just need to give it a sharp shock with the hammer and it will pop off? or is there more to it?
Do i have to remove the 4 bolts inside the pulley? do i need a puller? my 1kz is in a van and i cannot fit a puller without removing the fan and radiator.

From memory the pulley is a taper fit on the shaft of the pump so a puller shouldn't be required. A swift tap with a soft faced hammer should do the trick. Try and get some packers behind the pulley so you get max belt for your buck in that small area.

    Good luck.

      Re: 1kz-te Injection pump removal

ok, so i removed all 4 10mm bolts inside the pulley and pulled the outer ring from the front half of the pulley. I had to make a puller out of a bit of flat plate and two longer 10mm bolts which worked perfectly to get the little sucker out. I Fitted the replacement "recon" pump then refitted the cam belt, re-tensioned the tensioner and bolted it all together but now i cant get it to run? it just turns over and over like there is no fuel? i loosened of an injector feed and its dry?

I pumped the bleeder pump before i bolted on the fuel line but it didn't help? any ideas?

Currently trying to remove the fuel pump out of mine. Having troubles. I also have to same symptoms of engine not starting because of no fuel that’s why I’m replacing the fuel pump. How did you get on in the end?
