  • Airbag Fault

    Hi Guys,

    Not Happy!

Last week, my airbag warning light was coming on and going off, dependant on its mood.
This week, I decide to send the car into Toyota to see what the problem is..... Spiral Cord! $700.00 (aka Clock Spring).

I took it to another Toyota specialist (Not Toyota) who did not believe that it could be that and yes! it appears to be the Spiral cord.
This is the lead that gives the Hilux boys so much of a headache and expense.

Anyway, its booked in for the work to be done, its not exactly what I planned to pay for just before my trip to Esperence on Thursday next week but I ain't driving 750km in the bush without functioning airbags with the wife and kids in the car. $450.00

Specialist says he has done heaps on Hilux but none on a Prado and Toyota part supplier tells him he has only sold one in WA, with three in stock across the whole country.

Anyway, hopefully this doesn't become too much of a common problem.
Anyone else had this issue before?

    Cheers
    Terry

      Re: Airbag Fault

I thought the SRS system had a 'special' warranty and TMCA had to replace SRS components at no charge to the consumer?

Mine did this after visiting the panel beater. Turned out the sensors were not fully plugged in. It took a large screw driver to lever the plugs fully in. No problems since. They should be all the way in to the flange. A long shot for you, but worth a check.

Pulling fuse out was only short term fix - flashing again.

After further investigation, my light was being triggered by the passenger side seat belt. I cleaned all the connections to it and problem solved - been 6 months ago now.

Not sure if this helps but the clock spring in my Hilux broke and Toyota fixed it free of charge because it's a known problem. They informed me that because the car was under 7 years old and had done less than 150,000 km they would fully cover the cost. Apparently it happens all the time on Hilux's, it hasn't happened to my Prado yet!

HI, I know I'm posting on a really old thread, but does anyone know the location of the airbag fuse?
                          Thanks in advance!

***Ok, I've got it, it's fuse 2 inside the car!***

I’ve been trying to diagnose my flashing airbag dash light fault also.

I believe it’s in my seatbelt, originally thought was in my driver seatbelt latch (bottom), but think it maybe a somewhat worn steel seatbelt clasp, after trying a few 2nd hand ones..

Have you put a code reader on it? as they will all have different codes. saves guessing what the issue is.
