    Re: passing protection

Hi Mardoc, what protection are you talking about?

I've watched the youtube clip and the only protection is about 7 minutes in when they did the Nolans Brook crossing (I think) at which point they put up a tarp as a water bling so create a bow wave at the front of the vehicle. The reason you do that, along with tying off the fan, is to prevent the fan drawing forward through the water and damaging the rear of the radiator.

    Great clip there.

        Re: passing protection

Its what you would use with a deep water crossing. If you don't then the fan behind the radiator will draw forward like the prop on an outboud motor and rip a hole in the back of the radiator. So as I mentioned the use of this creates a bow wave where the is a high piont of water in front of the vehcile but a low point in the engine bay so the fan can not draw forwad. The other thing to do is tie off the fan so it can not turn for a short period of time. You can just use a tarp and tie it on or you can buy a water blind that attaches to the front but a tarp and a piece of rope is much chaper and more versatile.
