  • Fitting coils/ shockies

    Thinking of getting a kit but don't want to fit it myself. Anyone know of who is willing to fit only? I expect most suspension businesses will only fit the stuff they sell you, not sure how willing they are to fit the stuff you buy elsewhere. I'm in Perth, WA so looking for someone here.

    If they want the work, they will do it, just be careful they dont overcharge on labour, get a firm price from then and it should take on longer that 2hrs for one person to do.

        I got my suspension set of Monroe 4x4 shockies and Kings springs fitted at a workshop in Balcatta. Was thinking of purchasing a set myself over the internet, but ended up asking the workshop to get stuff for me and fit it. There is a suspension shop in Midland that quoted quite a good price for a full set of Tough Dog springs and shocks too but I didn't end up getting from them.

          If it is a propper suspension place or 4wd mechanic, they will have the correct gear to get those rear shocks out, I got mine done by EFS and it only took them just over 1 hr to do both the front and rear together. Having the correct gear will make light work of it.

            Hey guys
            I agree with crooza my mate is a mechanic ,not even at a four wheel drive shop.He put lovell springs and shocks in my 90 sereis in an hour and fourty five minutes and thats including having a bite to eat . If a four wheel drive shop takes any longer than two hours i would be going some where else.And there was no cutting needed ?

              I think you will find most times you will do the job in under two hours.
              However late model Prado's like my VX have very limited access to the rear shock upper mounts, especially the passenger rear shock. They appear to have more pipes etc with less clearance compared to the earlier models. And yes I have the right tools, if your replacing the shocks and don't want or need to keep the old units it is easier I believe to cut the shock shaft with an angle grinder in these cases.

                Perhaps ask your local toytoa dealer if they would do a fit only job.

                I know of a few that have done that with the local toytoa place here.
                One prado owner (90 series) I know got a quote for ~$250 for front and rear shocks for fitting only. Took the dealership 4-5 hours as they tried in vain to not cut the shock shaft but in the end did so as the nut just would not come undone. The dealership stuck by the quote without being asked by the owner. Pretty good IMO.

                  I'm a mechanic. I own a 90. I did them myself. They are a pain in the ass - full stop....

                  Key point is - if you get a quote for someone to do them make sure they understand the job and preferably have done a set before (on a 90). That way you wont get a surprise bill at the end of the job.

                    Malaga Suspensions or Wilkinson's Suspension Centre....do a wheel alignment at the same time.

                    My mate did his (upgraded his delica suspension) and price included wheel alignment and brake bias adjustment.
