  • Redarc SBI12 Problem

    I have placed this here, because it's what I installed in my 120 series.
    Now the issue - In September last year I installed my dual battery system, using the redarc SBI12 solenoid. I noticed today that it's no longer charging my auxiliary battery. Upon closer inspection, I can't find anything wrong, other than the redarc no longer illuminates when you start the engine. How can I test the redarc to determine if it has failed?

    Hi Prado BB,

    Simple, start car, check cranking battery volts are higher than 13.2V redarc should now be on.
    Check voltage across aux should be approximately the same as cranking battery volts.

      Andy.....

      I went through 2 of these with a similar problem to what u have experienced but my red LED light still worked.... Problem turned out to be Pitted contacts from too much current running through the unit. I was using 35mm2 cable between batteries so it was possible to have current flow through the unit that exceeded the units ability to handle it...... I upgraded to the high current one and so far so good.

      PS: I noticed it wasn't charging by the in car voltmeter that I had installed....

        thanks for the replys. It definitely isn't charging and no red light.
        Rob - what's the model number of the replacement redarc? is it the 200amp?

          Don't know about your REDARC but my CHARGEMASTER has been known to play up if either of the batteries are disconnected. I disconnected the batteries when wiring up my winch only to find the aux battery wasn't getting charged. Read the instructions for the battery controller and I have to ensure that the thin earth wire from the regulator to the negative battery terminal IS THE LAST wire to be connected. Everything works fine now.

            Yes it is the 200amp one but I can't remember the model replacement number as it was about 3yrs ago. I had a look on their website and they have changed the look of them a bit as well....
