  • microwave alarm

    Hi
I just got a prado 120 from year 2003.. i have problem with the alarm..
I think its the microwave alarm, there is a off switch.. i tryed push it but it not help

The problem is worst when raining..
I also get a "red car symbol" flashing on my dashboard, when taking my key out
what does that symbol mean ?

Thanks in advance, for any help

    Re: microwave alarm

The red car symbol (with a key inside it) is the immobiliser. When the key is removed, the chip that is located in the key is taken far enough away that it activates the immobiliser.

Correct me if i'm wrong anyone.

      Re: microwave alarm

      Hi,

False alarming during rain is an indication the sensitive setting for the microwave
      sensor is too high.

Assuming a standard type alarm is fitted there are two adjustments for the microwave
sensor, one adjusts the internal sensitivity, the other adjusts the external field sensitivity.

When it rains if the alarm chirps a few times the stops this is an indication the external field
sensitivity is to high. If the alarm goes into full alarm then the internal field sensitivity is set to
      high.

To test the microwave sensor, leave a window down if possible and turn on the alarm
      then wait a few minutes.

After a few minutes walk around the vehicle trying to keep around 200mm away
from the body work, the alarm should not activate. If the above test is ok slide
your hands down the glass, the alarm should chirp a few times to warn you off
but should not go into full alarm. If the above is ok the put your arm through the
open window as if your going to pick up an item of the seat and the alarm should
      go into full alarm.

I have mine set that if you get within a mirrors distance of the car it will
chirp the alarm siren to indicate "backoff". I do get the occasional chirps though
as yours does doing heavy rain but am prepared to put up with it to be warned if
someone is checking my truck out.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers

            Re: microwave alarm

            Hi radhillon,

I have a Rhino system fitted, yes it integrates into the factory keyless remotes.

            Zarl,

The microwave sensor is a small black plastic unit, about the size of a match box. It will most likely be mounted under the dash
near the console and hopefully where you can adjust it easily or maybe under the centre console. Mine is mounted behind
the ash tray for ease of adjustment, simply have to remove the ash tray, I doubt yours will be that easy unless your luck.
The unit will have a couple of holes in the cover and probably a led. The holes will most likely be marked int & ext. Use
a very small phillips head screw to adjust and only move it a tad. Turn on the alarm and wait a few minutes for the sensor
            to settle down before testing.

            Cheers
