  • Right Indicator Blowing Fuse

I have installed my dual battery system about two weeks ago now, other than that (and it's been running fine) I have not changed anything.
This morning, my indicator fuse blew, so I stopped at a servo, threw in the spare 15AMP and tried again, left works, right, blows fuse again, and again.....
Went through 4 x 15AMP fuses, ended up putting in a 20AMP, I know this is not right, but they work, and had to go to work today, otherwise I'd of stayed home and investigated.
This happened to me once before, before I did ANY changes.
Any ideas where to start looking? I am hoping I do not have to pull out the second battery, but I am thinking the look that runs down the bottom, passed the bottom of the tray may be rubbing on the tray bolts. Another thought was the lights for the Sov bar have shorted somewhere. Is there a common place I can look?

    Advice greatly appreciated.

    Mark.

Thanks Schaffer, I don't suppose there is an easy way to trace it??

        Easiest way is with patience...

A good wiring diagram will help you lots, and a decent multimeter, and some time!

          Re: Right Indicator Blowing Fuse

Try and think back to when you first encountered this and any work that had been performed on your vehcile (by youself or others around this or before this time). You havn't mentioned with the 20A fuse in place if both the front and rear indicators are working on the right hand side. If one is not working then start at that indicator assembly and examine the wiring for asy damage either along the wiring or the connections. With fuses removed, key NOT in ignition and indicators turned off and the indictor assembly plug removed see if you get a short from the positive wire (not sure which one that is) to the chassis.

Schaffer, Once I put the 20AMP they all work, drove 300km's today and no more problems or blown fuses, but I still want to find the cause...
            Thanks for you advice guys...

                  Re: Right Indicator Blowing Fuse

If your auxiliary is sitting in the spare spot up front it is on the RHS. Take the battery out and see if any wiring has been pinched when the battery was installed. All the lights/indicator wiring runs past there and if you are like me and have an AGM (mine is a 13") they are heavy and hard to position without sitting them down a couple of times. Otherwise the only thing to do is check the obvious. Look for damaged wires/sheathing. There may be damaged wires going to the trailer plug, you will have to get under and look. Trailer plug collapsed. Etc. I think though your likely culprit is the auxiliary install so look carefully at what was moved, poked, prodded, pulled and otherwise aggressed upon.

If you have a Sovereign Bar on check your indicator bulbs in the Narva housing on the front, sometimes they shake loose and the bottom spring plate moves up and touches the bulb holder. It is a bad design , I am thinking of changing them for LED lights.

I think Slammin Sammy has nailed it.
I did check them when I was at the servo, but also did a few other things at the same time, it sounds like it to me.
It has not happened again since, it's all good....

Cheers folks for your help and advice...
