HI everyone this is my first post ,have been reading posts and I am glad I bought one of these great 4wd.We have a 2007 cherry {burgandy} D4D diesel with mickey thompsons ATZ 4 ,ARB bullbar etc.etc.I do all services myself but have had issues trying to find information on adjusting the valve clearance on these new engines.Toyota's response from a few dealers is that if it is not rattling or making noise we don't touch them. The service manual says every 50 000 km i think.I have a cd of the engine which is basically an exploded view ,more a parts manual then anything but I can't find or buy a workshop manual anywhere. The V8,s are hydraulic and I wish these were the same but unfortunately the prado has shims .I am basically trying to find out the process in which I can check the valve clearance of the engine.Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: valve clearance
No shims on the D4D, it has solid lifters. If the clearance is out of spec you replace the whole lifter with a new one of a size that brings the clearance back into spec (Available from Toyota in various sizes)
Clearance is checked cold.
Intake: 0.20-0.30mm
Exhaust: 0.35-0.45mm
With cylinder 1 on TDC; check the exhaust on cylinders 1 and 3 and the intake on cylinders 1 and 2.
With cylinder 4 on TDC (rotate 360 degrees from TDC on cylinder 1); check exhaust on clyinders 2 and 4 and intake on 3 and 4.
If any are out of spec you need to remove the lifter and measure it to determine the size of the new replacement lifter of the correct size.
