How's it going everyone I've recently bought myself a Prado and I’m loving it. Been on the beach a couple of times and have had some good days with the family. The car was going really good until the other day when my wife was driving around town and the car just stopped. She got towed off the road and a mate of mine came down and changed the fuel filter, he then went on to prime it but when we tried to start it, it wouldn't start. He disconnected the hose, tried to start it and no fuel was coming through.

He said he thinks it's the fuel pump any ideas or suggestions ?

1st question isoes it have fuel in it?

If so did it run out?

Has it been reprimed properly?

yeah it is full mate we just did 700+kms it was running fine i filled it back up and it happened the next day.

Did it stop just after filling up?. If so you may have a heap of water in the tanks.

If it has a drain plug on the fuel tanks then I would undo each one and drain some into a bucket. Water will be at the bottom as the diesel floats. If water comes out there is your problem.

sorry got my days mixed up I drove it around the next day after filling up and it was fine when my mate took the filter out there was water in there but would that stop the fuel pump from working?

Water can do some weird things. You would think it would pump water but we have had trucks with water in the fuel that wouldnt - dont know the technical reason why though.

Its already been said, diesel will float on top of the water, so I wouldnt expect water to be the issue here. Could be blockage? To see if its a blockage, try and isolate where the fuel is not coming through. Disconnect the engine side of the filter and turn the engine over, and check if fuel is coming out. If not, then work your way back down the fuel line, reconnecting and disconnecting as you go.
Do yuo have twin tanks? check the inline fuel pump, cos if this stops working then even if your sub is full, the fuel wont make it into the other tank, and you will effectively run out of fuel even though you have a full sub.

Hi all
I had a similar problem. if your car is showing between half and 3/4 full on the second tank it means your jet pump valve which pumps fuel fron the sub to main tank is blocked or not working. You can test this by adding some fuel and it will stall and not start at exactly the same point on the fuel guage. I had to get mine replaced and the problem is no longer.
