  • Safari snorkel problem?

    Howdy all,

Started up today and there was a wierd sound coming from the snorkel mouth - sorta like a rattle but it wasn't. I would change and go away with revs, then come back at idle etc. You could feel the air pulsing at the snorkel mouth, and from the water vents around the top! The car drove OK, nothing abnormal in the performance.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Pulsing how? Could you be a little more specific - i'm no mechanic, but it may help someone diagnose the issue...

      Such as -
pulsing air in or out of the snorkel mouth?
rattle like loose mounting bolts for the snorkel or rattle within engine?
air intake filter not blocked or loose?
      etc etc...

        Hi,

The ratlle sounded like a nuts and bolts type sound, but wasn't - everything is tight. Re pulsing, you could feel air being pumped out of the rain vents around the top of the snorkel, and air pushing in and out of the snorkel mouth. I know it sounds wierd, but I can't describe it any other way. I was concerned because air is supposed to go into the snorkel, not come out of it! I took off the rubber valve at the base of the air box and cleaned ot out (the dust valve). There were a few dead bugs in it. I wonder if this was being kept open instead of being allowed to shut as normal has anything to do with it? I haven't been able to drive the car since, but I'll report back if this was the problem.

        Cheers
