  • radio wiring, with amplifier

    Hello,

    my name is Dirk and I live in Belgium (so, I'm sorry for my English). I'm proud owner of a Toy LC 120. It has already been modified for a few things (interior LED, blue LEDstrip inside, entertainmentsystem with iPod connection, LED outside, LED flashers outsides, angeleyes,...). Now I have ordered a new headunit (touchscreen, gps, bluetooth,...) to replace/update the standard radio with 6cd-player.
    Normally it's plug and play but I found out that my LC120 also had an external amplifier under the driver's seat (on the left side) and that there is a subwoofer in the back (on the right side in the trunk), so: no plug 'n play.
    The problem is that connectors don't fit and I'm searching for a scheme or a right adapter/connector. The head unit has the number 86120-60510 and is actually a Pioneer unit p3914. It has 3 connectors on the back, one, the smallest, is for the iPod. The amplifier (86280-60291) is also from Pioneer (with a Toyotalabel) and has the typenumber gm8027zt. That one has 2 connectors.
    I've got several wiring diagrams from my dealer but the colors of the wires are not the same as in my car. Search on the internet: 'no diagrams for that part'
    I've already ask my question on the local forum but with no succes. Apparentely, it's a rare option in Belgium/Europe (?).
    So I want to ask if anyone has a solution for my problem: I want to know which wire is for the ground, the speakers, line-out,... on the back of my radio and/or amplifier.
    thx
    Dirk

    you might be in a little trouble as i don't think we (Australia) can help.
    as our stereo's used here are fujitsu-ten models as this is what TMCA fit and wired-in.
    meaning our wiring and plugs will be different to other countries, if different units are used.

      Thx for your quick reply.

      I just started to check out the voltage of each wire, that's gonna take a while but I think that I don't have any other solution...

      At this moment I already know which wire is for which speaker (2 hours ops: ). Now I'm gonna search for the right connector and hopefully I get it installed at the end of the week...

        Re: radio wiring, with amplifier

        I have just put pioneer head units in our prado and also our Corolla.

        The standard colours that australia use for stereos (aftermarket) are different to the manufacturers colours.
        Like the DIN sizing for stereos, they are an industry standard.

        Local auto shops can supply adaptors to connect to the original wiring loom and the colours of those adaptors match a supplied stereos colours, not the OEM colours.
        So that makes it easy to solder up your own connections and leave the original stuff alone.

        So what I am saying is I can't give you the cars colour chart for wire/ equipment, but if your country uses a standard for stereo wire colours you maybe able to pick up an adaptor with correct colour from stereo to original through an adaptor. Weather they are the same as australia or not.

        The standard colours for aftermarket in aus are a little like this.

        Yellow = constant 12V (direct from battery for memory)
        Red = controlled by ignition switch (acc or on)
        Black = chassis ground
        Blue/white = connect to system control terminal of the power amp and or power antenna relay control (max 300mA 12VDC) so dont use this to drive other equipment unless through a relay.
        ***So in Prados with a window antenna this Blue/White wire is connected to power the FM amplifier for better reception. (in the adaptor plugs this blue/white connects to 2 outputs via a jumper/ bridge to 2 terminals of the plug, both solid blue.****

        white = Front left +
        white/ black = front left -
        Gray = front right +
        Gray/ black = front right -
        green = rear left +
        Green/black = rear left -
        Violet = rear right +
        Violet/black = rear right -

          Re: radio wiring, with amplifier

          Remember that the colours above are the aftermarket colours, so aftermarket adaptors and aftermarket stereos will match.

          An extra bit of info about pioneer and external amps.

          in the back of the head unit there are two(or more depending on the unit) RCA connections that are to supply the amp sound.
          if a subwoofer is used then the rear speaker wires connect differently.

          pioneer recomend that the rear wires, Green & green/black be left unconnected.
          and the rear violet & violet/black be connected to the subwoofer, then settings are changed in the head unit to suit.

          Hope some of that will help.

          Jeff.

            Re: radio wiring, with amplifier

            It's indeed a great help...

            I've already thrown out the original ampli and headunit and replaced them by another hu and pioneerampli with rca connectors.

            I just had the problem with the antenna: there are 2 of them and I didn't known which one to use, so I put them together but the reception is horrible...
            So I have to connect the blue/white with the 2 solid blues to power the FM ampli ?
            Another option was that I change the antenna but I have a rooftent...
            And on the inside: there is already the gps-antenna and 2 dvb-antenna's... So I want to avoid to place another one.

            I'm going to try this tomorrow (it's to cold here (- 5° C) to release the plastic buttons and covers), I have to work this night... And also try to install the dvb-t antennes and hopefully I still can finish him in 2010.

            Thx again.

            today I installed my reversecamera but with a seperate switch so that I can activated it when I wanted (e.g. to check my trailer with my BJ40 on it 8) )

            ps at a russian site I found the schemes of the hu and ampli (in English)

            Best wishes

            Grtz
