So I drove to the local Caltex servo tonight looking to fill up on Diesel only to find that there weren't any Diesel pumps :!: I must have missed it :?: I later drove to the local Shell servo, and read all their pump labels only to find that only ONE pump, out of 12 pumps offered, had diesel. I was just under 1/4 tank... and $152.45 later it was full. I suppose the good thing is I won't need to full up again for two weeks! Being my first diesel car, I never thought locating fuel for it would be that difficult! For those curious I had a tank average of 10.5lt/100km doing mostly suburban and freeway driving. the tank average rose after my two trips to ARB for suspension, bar and locker. I'm not sure if it's related as the extra weight is negligible but it probably is another factor. Anyway, I've got a couple of questions to put forth...
I know for a fact that approximately 30% to 40% of the pumps in rural town servos are diesel. This is probably due to most customers being farmers who run diesel vehicles. My question to you is, how scarce are diesel pumps in your area?
Also, while filling up tonight, I took twice as long as the sedan behind me to fill a full tank and was holding up the queue. Next question to you is, when do you fill up? flashing fuel light, 1/4 tank or 1/2 tank? I never fill up after the flashing fuel light turns on as I've been told the last bit of fuel has sediments etc that arent good for the engine (obviously). I've also been told that running the tank completely empty (I'd never do this) is not only bad for the engine (duh  ) but requires a lot of work to get the engine running again... as compared with a petrol engine, where you could just fill up and be on your way.
Would like to hear your opinions and thoughts
