  • New suspension

So after a recent service, turns out my current rear shocks are leaking, they are original and the prado has about 205,000km on it.
So, this is a pretty damn good excuse for an early christmas present/suspension upgrade right?
I've goin for a 2inch ironman setup with foamcell shocks in the rear and getting it put in on the 17th.

Any tips/advice before it gets done, e.g. anything i should get the mechanics to check while they're at it?

I have just replaced mine with TJM XGS Gold and installed polyairs as well. My son and I fitted them ourselves and just did the usual checks on all the rubber bushes that we could see. All we ended up replacing was the bushes on the swaybar as one was about to break. Ended up with a 35mm lift in front and 45mm lift rear. Now i just have to find the time to put them to the test.

    Cheers

put the foamcells in the front, they are heaps better then the nitrogas, i have foamies on my 120 in the front and it handles the bumps really well, you wont be dissapointed. cheers samo

Ahk right, I asked for foamcell but thought that the fronts only came in nitrogas because they are struts, thought I read it on the ironman website somewhere, probably just misread it.
Did you worry much about the cv angles and also the panhard rod at the back pulling the diff sideways? or no need to worry with the 2inch lift?

cv angles will be fine, no need to worry about panhard in the rear as its only 2 inch lift. cheers samo

Consider long term, is 2" enough or do you want more. If you want more, hold off and look at the options.

I've weighed up and im happy with just the 2inch, I dont get out that often and most of it is beach work. Work will be ramping up in the next two years anyway so really wanting it to be just a bit more capable for when I do get out.
Can't wait for the lift, will post pics and measurements when its done.

2 inch is enough for the front, or you'll be constantly rattling your fillings loose with the suspension bashing out on the top Bumpstops, and you'll lose all your droop over ruts etc.
Another worry is the driveshaft angles start to get a bit steep & chew boots out.

                Regards, Jay.
Make it idiot proof and someone will make a better idiot.

2" may not be enough for some, it depends on what you're doing. But yes, going that little bit further will cause failures if not done correctly.
