View Full Version : AMTS Spacers (Spare tyre carrier spacer: 12mm & 20mm)

amts
24-11-2010, 10:19 PM
ITEM: Spacer for the spare tyre carrier on the 90 & 120 series Prado only
CONDITION: Brand new
REASON FOR SELLING: To assist other PP members in modding their vehicles and preventing damage to the rear door when upgrading the tyres. See the Spare tyre carrier spacer (http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1571&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a) thread for more info.

PRICE AND PRICE CONDITIONS:

20mm - $60
$10 Regular post (with tracking) to anywhere in Australia
$12 Express post (with tracking) to anywhere in Australia
EXTRA INFO: The spacer for the spare tyre carrier is required when upgrading your tyres to 265/70R17 or 275/65R17 on the 120 series. The spacer stops the larger tyres from rubbing the paintwork on the rear door. It also provides some extra gap for rubbish bags.

A new set of correct length high tensile bolts, flat washers and spring washers will be supplied along with foam lining to protect the spacer from scratching the paint on the rear door.
Made from alloy, then powder coated black satin black.
The spacers are made to order and are done in lots of 9 or 10 sets. Please register your interest here or via PM. I will start each batch once there are about 5 people interested.
LOCATION: Adelaide, SA

Next batch: Currently in stock

Thanks for mine Andrew - I finally got around to fitting them last week. Should have seen the mess of bark and leaves etc in there when i removed it all from back of car. I actually thought there was a birds nest in there as there was so much mess in there. Looks like last owner never ever removed spare etc - prob didnt as tyre is new and its 5 years old. Actually just replaced original battery too - not bad for 5 years old either. Thanks again the spacers work a treat and look so professional! You have done a top job with these, regards Mick :D

Just trying to figure out what the size of those dog bone shaped spacers is? That's what i've got and it might not be enough when i'm upgrading the tyres, can anyone confirm?

if they aren't 20mm i might have to order one set

I've actually got the dog bone spacers and they are 12mm thick.

I've just delivered the 20mm material to the machinist to start the next batch of 10 sets. Machinist has indicated that it will be done next week. If all goes to plan with the anodisers, the spacers will be "in stock" before Christmas.

So far, I have 2 confirmed orders, leaving 8 sets up for grabs.

Just picked up the spacers from the machinist this morning. Dropped off at the anodisers and will be picked up tomorrow morning. I hope to send the spacers off on Friday or Monday.

The current batch consists of 10 sets of 20mm (6 left) and 3 sets of 12mm (2 left).

Greetings - those look the job. I'm using old chopping board at the moment, running 265/70x17 Cooper STTs, moving to 285/70x17 early Feb / March. Would the 20mm spacers be suitable, or do I need bigger?? Also - anyone any ideas if this size tyre will still fit on the back door without catching the bumper? (I *think* it should).

If they'll suit, can you put me down for the 20mm spacers please - and I understand that pricing will be different for postage to the frozen north from the flooded south :-)

PS hope the weather isn't hammering all you guys in QLD too badly - looks hectic on the news :-(

Best wishes

Gary

I'm not sure of the suitability of the 20mm sapcers for your 285/70R17. The 20mm spacers gave plenty of clearance from the wiper arm for 275/65R17 BFGs. Refer to this post (http://pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1571&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=240&sid=611ab5c9a5f062b20a7c0008bcd552a2&sid=611ab5c9a5f062b20a7c0008bcd552a2#p115614).
You may have to do some experimentation yourself to verify this as I don't believe any one here is running that size. Perhaps your friendly tyre guy can assist in doing one tyre and take measurements (assuming that he has some in stock).

If you need bigger, then the Kaymar rear tyre spacer would be more ideal or contact MickL as he has sold something similar before (http://pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=9951&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&sid=611ab5c9a5f062b20a7c0008bcd552a2).

Thanks Andrew. No stock of tyres locally so I'll order one in to take to my friendly tyre guy to check

I found a tyre dealer that was willing to bring the STT into the store for the experiment and then send it back. Cost would be $20 to remove my current tyre, mount the STT and then mount back my tyre. And out of interest, the tyre is $450 fitted and balanced.

Postage costs (from Australia Post website) are:
Registered Post $32.65 2kg
Air Mail $27.25 20kg
Sea Mail $15.35 20kg
No idea on delivery times.

Here is the current count for the next batch:

12mm: 0
20mm: 9

I am starting the 20mm batch on 12/04/11 and it will be ready by easter. I don't think I will be doing the 12mm sets anymore due to more interest in the 20mm spacers and the flexibility in tyre choice and installation of rubbish bag the extra 20mm spacer provides.

There are 9 sets available.

Hi Jeff,
No worries. See you around!

Hi AB
Your signature shows that you have a 90 series. These spacers are for 120 series although I have not seen a 90 or 150 series to see if they will fit. Can you please confirm what vehicle the spacers are being fitted to and if it is not the 120 series, then I can look into it.

AB's 97

If you can measure the centre distance across the 2 bolts, I can then confirm if the existing spacers will fit or not.

Hi Andrew,

just took the whole thing off and measured it up and hole to hole it measures 170mm. I also measured from middle of hole to middle of hole and that measured 155m.

Cheers AB

amts
11-05-2011, 01:32 PM
Hi AB,
I think you are measuring at the wrong spot. The spacer goes between the rear door and the carrier and not between the carrier and the wheel (which I think is what you measured).

Not sure if you got my pm, still working out how to use that part of the forum because it's a bit confusing.. Any who i measured it with the steel ruler, from centre of the hole to centre of the hole and got 157mm as well so it's looking good.

Hi Andew, got them today thanks, very well made and an excellent fit.

Like others have mentioned, I was amazed at the amount of gunk hidden behind that stupid black plastic thing on the bottom half of the wheel carrier. Can't figure what it is for unless it is to stop the tyre touching the door when it is lifted onto the carrier. It's in the bin now anyway.

I don't normally start the manufacture until about 4 people are interested. This is because I don't really want to be out of pocket for 9 or 10 sets and only ever sell one :) Usually, when one person is on the list, a few more will chime in. How long can you hold out for? Are you getting 265/70R17 muddies?

Nice! When you get it installed, mount it on the spare tyre carrier and see how close to the door the KM2 will be. The KM2s have quite a round shoulder compared to the square shoulder on the BFG ATs. So you could get away with a couple of M10 washers temporarily.

Ok cool, I might just try the washers until you whip up some more spacers.

cheers.

Thanks amts, Put mine on today and found half a tree and a bucket of dust under there. Got my BFg 275/65/17 spare on with plenty of clearance for my rubbish bag as well. Very well made and fast delivery thanks again

Cheers Phil.
With the extra clearance now, it should be easier to clean behind that area without taking the spare off.

Hi AMTS. Do you have any 20mm spacers in stock at the moment?

Ryno,
That last set was 'reclaimed'. The spacers are made to order, so I usually wait for about 4-5 people interested before starting the next batch. Are you able to wait?

Sure will, I expect there will be a few more orders soon

amts,

Do you have a set of spacers for a 120? I'm fitting up 265/70/17 so no sure what size spacers I need.

Hi Hazza,
I'm pretty close to having the prototype of a new spacer. Please have a look at this thread

I'd like one of these if you want to do another batch.
