Pioneer DVD headunit install.
And others who have posted there findings for us DIYers.. a big Thank You to you.
The dash came apart and went back together with minimum fuss.
The Pioneer AVH 3250 DVD (BT) went in with a few dramas which I will mention, And the rear view camera went in and hooked up OK.
Now for my findings
The Standard wiring in my dash did vary a little from the others I had seen on this forum,
But with an adaptor plug from Repco that plugs into the toyota plugs worked out much easier and more standardised.
The plugs from Repco come in 2 parts. one to connect to a cars OEM plugs to some generic plugs. And one from the Generic plugs to the new headunits plug/s per brand.
I only bought the toyota to generic adaptor . $20 (ish)
The headunit came supplied with the Pioneer plug which came ready with all wires for the 4 speakers, power(constant) power(acc) Lights, park brake(for DVD viewing), reverse power(for reversing camera view)
And with the adaptor plug (now missing the generic plugs) wire colours matched up perfectly, and ones that didn't (reverse, handbrake) were easily tapped in. Due to not being in the standard wiring loom..
It also comes with a Ipod cable. This is no ordinary cable, it is normal where it plugs into the iPod/ iPhone, but uses a USB plug and a 4 contact 3.5mm plug on the other end for connection to the headunit. (this cable I modified to be about 1M longer)
This is so the iPod/iPhone can be controled from the head units touch screen, including album artwork onscreen, as well as charging iPod touch and Iphone4. (Bonus)
The Headunit also contains Bluetooth so I ran the supplied mic to just onto of steering column.
I still need to find the inserts to hide the gaps next to the standard double DIN unit size to the toyota dash, any help on that would be appreciated.
So in closing, Thanks all to the DIYers that have posted up helpful hints, tips and guides to do all these things we like to do, but dont like to ruin.'
And remember, we don't make mistakes, we gain experience.........
