After reading all the plusses and minuses of where to fit an Aux battery in my petrol 120, (cracking panels etc etc) I was wondering why you couldnt just use another standard Toyota battery tray for the Aux battery?? I will have a look in the engine bay tomorrow to see if there is an obvious answer but keen to hear opinions. Thinking is if its ok for one side why wouldnt it be ok for the other one - providing it is securely fitted - THANKS MICK

This was the 'most recent' (see old) thread I could find that mentioned the battery tray found underneath the main battery, so here goes.
I was under the bonnet of the Prado the other day I decided I would pull my main battery out and give things a clean underneath, only to find that all that was under the battery was some flimsy looking bit of plastic. Nothing very secure at all. I suppose what got me most was how paranoid everyone seems to be about what battery tray to use in a dual battery install for the aux battery, when if you look at whats under the main it is nothing 'heavy duty' at all.NOW FOR SALE!!! - 2004 Silver GXL 3lt 4spd Auto - ARB Bullbar, Safari Snorkel, Redarc Dual Battery System, Cooper ST MAXX, Dark Tint, IPF900XS spots, Raised Bilstein/Kings Suspension/Firestone Airbags, Autosafe Cargo Barrier, Sandgrabbers, Rola Roof Rack Stuff, Insect Screen, Dust/Wind Deflectors, Sheepskin/Black Duck Seatcovers, GME TX3510, ARB underbonnet compressor, Allied Hammer Rims, ARB UVP, AJ Sliders

That's why I decided to buy a $15 tray from Bursons + use that with a home-made support underneath + to 2 edges, plus battery braced to front at top of hold down bracket. Even cut down 1 of those silver heat deflectors you use for inside your windscreen to wrap the aux + protect it from heat off engine + fan. Been set up like that for ages now with no issues with the guard or battery tray--> Macarthur District 4WD Club Member <--
